Correlation is not causation but at a minimum it questions the efficacy of wide spread masking and not much has been done to study potential harms that might result from it.

If masking were so effective, that plot wouldn't exist.
coffeeindiana.bsky.social
More mask usage is not necessarily better, life is complicated. A retrospective study shows high usage countries in Europe had higher excess mortality, as opposed to lower.

High mask usage was correlated with higher excess deaths

😆 It honestly looks exactly the same as the paintings so maybe there's an undead Monet poking around keeping things in order

No idea on your schedule, but if you have time to go to Mont St. Michel, totally worth it. It's a 4 hr drive from Paris, we stopped at Monet's house on the way. Spent the night, walked on the streets at night and saw the abbey in the morning, then back to Paris

I believe any prevalance of pickpockets in Paris is because they seemed to revel in minimizing the number of subway cars used in the Paris metro (in 2019 anyway) so that you're riding shoulder to shoulder no matter what time of day it is.

Uhh, so it's like a flounder with two eyes on one side of its head?

going viral here is worse than it used to be on twitter because half of the replies will just be pure pedantry
coffeeindiana.bsky.social
Dude you're a pedantic moron, so try parsing what "effectively killed" means.

That's the dumbest take on what the phrase "led to violence" means I've ever seen.

Under that definition, nothing ever leads to violence because people always have the option to not be violent.
coffeeindiana.bsky.social
Scholars knowledgeable of the situation thought it would lead to violence.

It then lead to violence.

But you think it's not a big deal. Makes sense.

Over 130 US Jewish studies scholars criticize Trump’s Jerusalem decision

"We hope one day to see a world in which all inhabitants of the land enjoy equal access to the city’s cultural and material resources," the scholars say.

www.jta.org/2017/12/10/u...
The statement cites information from the left-wing Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem, which documents that “Palestinian residents of Jerusalem endure systematic inequalities, including an inequitable distribution of the city’s budget and municipal services, routine denial of building permits that are granted to Jewish residents, home demolitions, and legal confiscation of property for Jewish settlement. In addition, Palestinians in the West Bank, unlike Jewish Israelis resident in that territory, require a special permit to visit Jerusalem’s holy sites.”

The statement continues: “In this context, a declaration from the United States government that appears to endorse sole Jewish proprietorship over Jerusalem adds insult to ongoing injury and is practically guaranteed to fan the flames of violence. We therefore call on the U.S. government to take immediate steps to deescalate the tensions resulting from the President’s declaration and to clarify Palestinians’ legitimate stake in the future of Jerusalem.”

They want two thing:s
1) their own state
2) part of Jerusalem as the capital

What is it about this that you don't understand?

If fire fighters showed up to a burning building that was half destroyed and then sat around watching it burn down to 90% destroyed before turning on a garden hose, would we say "Wow, they heroically put out that fire. Nobody else could have done what they did"?

His first admin was responsible for throwing gas on the situation in the first place by moving the embassy to Jerusalem, effectively killing prospects of the 2-state solution.
coffeeindiana.bsky.social
His administration has definitely starved people to death with the destruction of USAID as well as outright dropped bombs on unidentified boats in the Caribbean at his direction, so yeah, really working towards world peace overall.

Also, ceasefires have happened under prior Presidents! The day he gets Palestine their own country he can be told he's the most special boy deserving of a shiny prize.

Basically the government has an accusation and the grand jury decides if the charges are warranted and if the person can be indicted and moved to the trial phase.

At the federal level it's 23 people and 12 have to agree to move ahead. Minimum quorum is 16 but still 12 have to agree.
coffeeindiana.bsky.social
One additional note that I didn't see anyone else mention: grand juries are part of the fifth amendment and are a requirement for any charges that carry a punishment of at least a year of prison.

They are meant to prevent sham trials brought by the gov

I can only imagine what the current total in number of exceptions is.

"In total, 161 exceptions to the filibuster’s supermajority requirement have been created between 1969 and 2014"

I tried to find what the minimum height of the wire is and apparently the camera can theoretically go as low as the ground, but NFL keeps the minimum height to 12 ft.

FG posts are 10 ft high so definitely possible for a kick to hit the wire if they've got the camera lower.
