Deeply disturbing- I’ve met Iqra Khalid and volunteered for her before. Cannot imagine the slightest justification for this.
Six members of the Canadian Parliament were denied entry into the occupied West Bank by the Israeli army today at the Allenby Bridge / King Hussein Crossing.

One of the MPs, Iqra Khalid of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party, was assaulted by an IDF soldier by being pushed multiple times.

As always, why not both? Relatively speaking academics, especially early career ones are pretty cheap
Ok, but speaking as a Canadian scientist, we absolutely need to fix the stagnant funding for researchers who are already here and punching above our weight, rather than doing the Harper thing again of spending heaps of money to recruit "superstars" from elsewhere.
When Hitler declared war on the universities there was an exodus of researchers.
The American "century" benefited from the influx of great thinkers.
Trump's war on American universities is the end of that century.
Canada's century has begun.
My latest.

it’s a weird time to be a person who finds the aesthetics of phone-targeted internet video completely repulsive.
I agree that it’s 100% true that the eyeballs are all on short form video - and man, it’s still really depressing how the necessity of Doing Video nowadays seriously disadvantages people who aren’t conventionally attractive (or who just genuinely can’t stand being on camera)
The one thing I keep thinking about is how much direct to camera stuff rewards physical attractiveness. I mean, that's gotta be part of the reason these wellness influencers are successful, right? And you're competing for eyeballs with them.

This would be a great time for Canada to take the lead in filling the gap, perhaps by engaging in some public health diplomacy around the world, but we’d rather cut positions at GAC and PHAC.

In this Maclean’s article, I unpack what the shifting security landscape means for us and why an arms-race approach would backfire.

The United States is an enemy of the European Union and Canada, they're telling us this straight up.
POLITICO: When you attack Europe, do you intend to send a message of tough love to our allies, or do you think that many of them are just weak and you don't want to be allies with them?

TRUMP: I think they're weak, but I also think they want to be so politically correct.

My moderate compromise standpoint is that everyone who has ever said or done Hitlerite things as a "joke" should be a) barred from all jobs and b) barred from all welfare benefits, with no support from the state in facing the ensuing consequences.
