Thanks to @mayorkwilson.bsky.social for being responsive to Council about extending parking hours to 7-10 PM. This negatively affects our economy (example: @councilordunphy.bsky.social noted its impact on musicians).

Other than event districts, starting 10/15 we're going back to 7 PM free parking.

When you're asked by your grandchildren what you did when tyranny came to Portland, you need to be proud of the answer. Show up, stay peaceful, stay safe, and stand up for Portland.

This place is not a hell hole or a war zone. It’s our beautiful home. And it's worth standing up for.

10) Check in on your neighbors, your friends, and your family members. Talk to the children in your life, and help them feel as grounded and safe as you can. Lend a hand. Volunteer. Organize a local show of support. Take deep breaths, and focus on what you can control.

9) If you choose to attend a protest: Be safe, aware, and peaceful. Avoid Federal property, including the ICE facility or the courthouse. Take public transit or walk. If you can, leave your phone at home. If you can’t, set a security password your phone. Share your location with a loved one.

8) Exercise your right to peacefully protest, show up, be passionate. But remain peaceful. President Trump is looking for an excuse to use the might of the military against US citizens to suppress free speech and assembly in Portland and other US Cities.

7) Oregon is a Sanctuary State. If a State, City, County, or Local government employee targets you or illegally cooperates with Federal immigration enforcement in violation of the Oregon Sanctuary Promise law, report that to 1-844-924-STAY

4) Be CLEAR when reporting ICE activity:

Count: 3 officers, 1 van

Location: SW 4th and Oak, Portland

Equipment: Blue ICE uniforms. White, unmarked van.

Activity: Officers are checking IDs.

Report Time: 2:48pm, June 8th

3) If you see individuals wearing militarized equipment but without clear identification of their law enforcement agency on either their uniforms, equipment, or vehicles apprehending citizens, call 911.

2) If you see ICE agents apprehending someone, and you are certain that they are ICE agents, call PIRC (the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition) Hotline at 1-888-622-1510

1) If you see something & you are not in danger, here’s how you can legally intervene: See a neighbor being questioned? Pull out your phone and start filming. Ask ICE to show ID. Ask for a warrant. Delay. Get their badge number. Get contact information for the family of the person being questioned.

Some new banner photo material from today's Homelessness and Housing Committee meeting that I was unable to attend.

(Note well: @councilordunphy.bsky.social, who is also a nerd, is also very seldom wrong.)

At the next Homelessness and Housing Committee meeting, @councilordunphy.bsky.social, @councilorgreen.bsky.social, and I will be giving a presentation on our takeaways from Vienna.
Learn about our takeaways from the Vienna trip at the Sept. 23 Housing & Homelessness Committee meeting. In Vienna we studied alternative housing models. At the H&H committee we’ll explain how these are a holistic framework to create quality housing and affordability for all Portlanders.

I got to give the welcoming remarks at the AARP Age Friendly Oregon Summit, held at Portland State University.

I'm excited to continue the work that was last championed by my boss Com. Nick Fish

That's definitely part of it. Zoning code changes would help. That will make it easier to build but the free market alone won't build housing that actually supports the full spectrum of housing needs, and we are wasting time and money and goodwill with how we are currently building housing.

Definitely can't be a cut-and-paste, but there are definitely lessons we can learn and apply, even if it looks different in practice.
