Running Wrap Up, 2024

Not as good as 2023; ran less miles, slower, with less elevation. But, as a result, I had few injuries (the plan).

Total Miles: 2,180
Miles Per Week: 42
Speed: 10:40 a mile

Always thankful I can still run, since at 58, any injury or worse could put an end to it for good.🙏

Sounds on the up and up to me.

Lutnick is right that Trump brought back the golden age - Gold has never been so expensive as it is during his administration. I wonder why.
They don't call him Nutlick for nothing.

This is so true. Any organization whatsoever or work with respect to supplies, signs, whatever - these people assume automatically it must have been Soros & Co. Can't possibly be the case that some people simply took care of it.
part of this is like, conservatives projecting; part of this is conservatives unable to imagine politics without money; and part of this is dudes who are so out of touch with feminized labor that they think children's birthday parties exist as a spontaneous act of parthogenesis
I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

All of this is fucking senseless. Minnesota did not have an immigration problem. Trump sent his Nazi thugs here because he's racist against Somali people and to own libs like Tim Walz. Now two Minnesotans are dead and Minneapolis is on the verge of going up in flames. None. Of. This. Was. Necessary.

Walz should just follow the MAGA lead and say "yeah, so what, I myself got a kickback from the fraud - that's what any smart person would do" and then insult reporters who ask about it further.

This is an irresponsible headline from the NYT. Should be called "Science Changes: That's Why We Should Trust It" since that's the conclusion of the piece. Instead, the NYT generates skepticism where there is none though a deceptive title.

Jack Smith, p. 27: "There is no historical analog for what President Trump did in this case … [W]hat he was not free to do was violate Federal law and use knowing-- knowingly false statements about election fraud to target a lawful government function. That he was not allowed to do."
BREAKING:

The House Judiciary Committee just released — on New Year's Eve — the 255-page transcript of Jack Smith's closed door deposition.

House Republicans continue their attempts to bury Smith's testimony.

Ah, now I see the concepts of the plan murkily.
FOX: What is the Republican plan to provide an alternative to the ACA?

REP. JASON SMITH: The difference Republicans and Democrats is Democrats are focused on 7% of the population. Republicans are focused on creating more choice and lowering healthcare costs for every single American.

America has 925 billionaires as of this year. Collectively they have a record $6.9 trillion in wealth.

The bottom 50% of Americans control $4.2 trillion in wealth.

When 925 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Plato doesn't mean that tyrants can't have a good time and enjoy their misrule. He just means that tyrants are slaves to their passions, and so internally chaotic. As a result, it's not possible for them to have peace, or well-being (which is different from enjoyment).
I always thought Plato was pretty pollyannaish on this point, but this is decent evidence for the view that a man of bad character will therefore be unhappy even with every external trapping of success and good fortune.
President Donald Trump gifted the world with nearly 200 Truth Social posts (and counting) on Christmas Day, where he amplified conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and called for a member of Congress to be deported.

This is a very useful and helpful point. I think most people project the general narrative of rulings in their lifetime to the court in general, historically. In truth, the SCOTUS 'protecting the minority' is a historical deviation from that narrative as opposed to the narrative itself.
The idea that the Supreme Court uses its independence to protect political minorities and uphold the Constitutional text is pretty ingrained in many people especially liberals. Even though it only did that for ~25 years of the 20th century and at best ~35 years of the 19th century.
The comments on this video on TikTok are so interesting to me because it is a lot of people saying that we can’t do this because what if Republicans try it to or what if Republicans reverse it. “We have to change the court the traditional way.”
