Political polarization is an unhelpful myth. Only one side is becoming more extreme. There is nothing extreme in standing firm in opposing rightwing extremism.
Yes. I’m definitely not on board with the argument of abandoning Ukraine to fund the NHS. I also don’t think we need to make that choice.
A lot of populism only pretends to stand for the people of course. Trump and Farage are fake populists, weaponising resentment for their own gain. They’re also fake nationalists - selling their countries out to international big money
I don’t think the point is that we should give to social services instead of supporting Ukraine. The point is that when money is needed - for war, for bailing out banks - it can always be found. It’s therefore a choice not to spend it on social services. As well.
Given Farage’s support for Trump, who is systematically dismantling US democracy, it should be socially unacceptable to vote for Reform. Farage hasn’t just crossed a line by being associated with a racist. His whole rightwing populist project crosses that line.

We must fight the Far-Right.

The Dutch are going to polls next week.

Hopefully Nederlanders can keep Geert Wilders out of office.

He is the embodiment of pure hatred against muslims, black & brown people.

We all must stand together against this hate.

Rightwing politics has demonstrably failed everywhere. The further right things have gone the worse the mess. The lesson of lurches to the right - Wilders in government, Brexit, Trump - is don’t do that again! Yet the far right thrives in a mess - where people are resentful, divided and ignorant.

I look ahead at the Dutch elections this Wednesday and assess the missed opportunity of media, parties, and voters to move beyond far-right dominance.
Some (disingenuously) ask how Trump can be a dictator when he won a democratic election. The response: would he have won if he’d campaigned on the promise to do what he’s doing now?

The US under Trump is not a democracy. And Farage is an enthusiastic supporter. The question Farage needs to be relentless asked is what he feels about Trump making himself a dictator and what that means for the direction he would take the UK if he became prime minister.

What’s the real reason that over a month after her election, Adelita Grijalva is STILL waiting to be sworn in?

Mike Johnson wants to protect those in the Epstein Files.

Full stop.

I know this is obvious. And I know we all know this.
But if the President can raise taxes because an advert annoyed him, without even consulting Congress, then the US constitution is simply not functioning as intended.

I particular like the colours of Vesuvius looking as though someone has fashioned it out of a lump of smooshed-together-different-coloured Play-Doh.

I don't understand how anyone can make the case that we still have constitutional government at this point. The president is collecting revenue *AND* spending money without Congressional authorization, refusing to spend money that Congress appropriated, disobeying whatever laws he feels like.

Don't forget — they're not just buying a ballroom. They're buying Trump's favor. [Cartoon by Mike Luckovich]

Our military is being paid by an anonymous donor.

Our WH East Wing was demolished for a ballroom - paid for by donors.

These aren’t acts of benevolence or patriotism.

This is the oligarchy assuming control, insidiously becoming part of how we function.

Every American should reject it.

THIS JUST IN! The Justice Department investigated crimes! I hate our Supreme Court. If it weren't for them, Trump would be in prison right now for January 6th.

Not quite sure why the media is presenting the Caerphilly result as a disaster for Labour, rather than as a perfect execution of its electoral strategy.

That strategy for *months* now has been to tell everybody who might otherwise be inclined to vote for them to fuck off.

And off they have fucked.

I hear the Epstein Ballroom will be illuminated solely by gaslighting.

Malignant narcissists often destroy what other people love. When they do, they’re acting out of pathological envy. They have a need for absolute control and a desire for sadistic pleasure. They intentionally engage in destruction to cause suffering in order to reinforce their sense of superiority.
Obviously the inspiration for what Trump has done to the Oval Office
Inside the Hermitage, the winter palace where Tsar Nicholas II and his family lived before they were executed—in a country where Russians were starving.
