I left the intro out, didn’t I.

Well, here goes.

I’m a nearly 40 year old woman with #ADHD and #depression. I am probably best known for salty fandom commentary, running @geekcalligraphy.bsky.social with my best friend, knitting in public, and acerbic commentary on Jews and comics.
So apparently I’m in a starter pack? Neat!

So for the new folks who only found me here and for everyone who came from Ye Olde Birde Site, an intro and some ground rules.

Rule 1 - this is my living room. That means my word is law and I will brook no disrespect here.
If you are in charge of towel purchases for any temporary residence (hotel, Airbnb, actual B&B), I implore you to spend the extra few dollars per towel and get fucking bath sheets. They’re substantially larger for a similar price and actually wrap around a whole human comfortably.

My version of what @moryan.bsky.social said. I just said it last year.
Look, I'm probably going to get shit for this one.

There is no way to only enjoy art made by good people. You can't know what anyone is like beyond their public persona until their private life becomes available for public consumption. It's simply not possible.

Once again, for the folks in the back.
For a v long time, I conflated "person who can make good art" with "person who has a functioning moral compass." I think that transference (based on appreciation, love, enthusiasm) is something a lot of us do. It hurts a lot when we find that our appreciation was hijacked so someone can do bad shit.

"actually his stuff was very Derivative and not Original" like, you don't have to do this. it is good for us all to sit with the cognitive dissonance that a very bad person can make very good art. it is good for us to work through the moral ramifications of that.

Scene: me attempting to wrangle a recalcitrant print into its frame.

“The frame is a heroine in a Romantasy novel. It will fit, damn it.”

My business, @geekcalligraphy.com, has been a Capital One Small Business customer since we started. In that time, they have steadily decreased the services they offer, to the point where in the day and age of frictionless money transfers, we have to write an actual paper check to pay any bills.

As a 3G Holocaust survivor I think it's bad that Anne Frank has morphed into a universal symbol for victims of human rights violations and I wish people would stop namechecking her every time they want to highlight something as bad

Just sent some more water bottles their way. Let’s clean this out.
Did you miss out on your last opportunity to bankroll the fully stocked pop-up leftist supply depot?? Do you want to send free hand warmers, winter gear, first aid supplies, YOU NAME IT, to the Twin Cities?

This is your moment. Let's ride.

It is simultaneously October 8, 2023 AND October 6, 2023. The hostages are all home. Our yellow ribbons are off, the masking tape went back in the drawer, and the extra candles are dark.

But there is work to be done and divides to heal. Bibi needs pitched in the trash and accountability needs had.

Today’s bright spot: there are no hostages, living or dead, held by Hamas in Gaza. For the first time in 12 years.

It’s not enough and doesn’t erase the despair we’re living through, but it is a bright spot.

Ran is finally home. They are all finally home. For the first time since 2014, there are no Israeli hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza.

On Oct 7, Ran's bravery saved countless lives. Today, we join his family and loved ones in honoring him. May his memory be for a blessing.

If anyone has better eBay/Poshmark fu than I have, I am looking for Hedley & Bennett masks. Yes, the apron company made masks. They have a filter pocket and are one of the few masks I can tolerate wearing for longer than 5 minutes. I didn’t know they’d become The Mask or I’d have stocked up.

My favorite lost restaurant hasn’t been closed for quite that long, but it’s Cafe Viva on New York’s Upper West Side. Corner red sauce style joint, but they had what they called the Azteca pizza which had no sauce, just onions, sweet corn, mozzarella cheese & red pepper on a cornmeal crust.
Sunday night timeline cleanse

please tell me about your favorite lost restaurant (closed for at least 5 years, like I really want you to go back into the vault), why you loved it and what you ate there

I grew up on welfare in the California Bay Area, in the part of the East Bay that was still pretty conservative, pretty rural. I had farmers for neighbors, while the "big city" was an hour's train ride away. We were a very purple political space, people living side by side.

So this is my literal first experience with requiring Prior Authorization for anything. Normally my issue with my ‘make brain go’ drugs is shortage.

Can someone please explain how the following text from QFC was telling me that there were steps *I* needed to take?

Why is the pill to replace executive function in the people with Executive Function Disorder the thing that takes all the executive function to get?

New insurance wants prior authorization (which the pharmacy couldn’t be arsed to tell me until I called). I send my NP a message in the approved way.

Right, the most important thing about this atrocity is to try to blame a very American evil on Israel.

Goddamn, this is shameless.

Question for the archivists out there:

Best friend and I are currently wondering whether Cricket or Cicada magazine had a piece on Operation Mincemeat/The Man Who Never Was. I am remembering it in one, she is remembering it in the other. Which of us is correct?
