I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I get why a distinction between "America" and "the Trump regime" may seem immaterial to many Europeans. But Trump's domestic political weakness is something Europe can exploit, which in turn strengthens the hand of opposition within the US. Plus, the distinction is *extremely* relevant stateside.

This is not a small thing. It's <the> thing. The entire ballgame. For all of 🇺🇸's many faults, we have done this better than ~anyone else for ~forever now, & we're going to do it again, & the people who don't like this are eventually going to lose again.
It's a small thing, but it fills me with civic pride to walk through the giant park near my house and see Hmong families having cookouts, Somali parents pushing their laughing kids on the swings.

Like, here are people who've endured horrors, and my city has welcomed them in to build peaceful lives.
Yes. My theory of the moment is Miller/Vance thought their view that immigrants threaten social solidarity would be widely shared. But ICE raids are driving native-born Americans to show solidarity with immigrants quite courageously. Now Miller is trying to disrupt that alliance with state violence.

i think we are too blinded by the day to day horrors not to see the bigger picture, which is that we are building towards some kind of generalized big disruption and one in which blue governors will have to work together to step in from an absent and/or hostile federal government

it seems like a safe bet that governors pooling resources and coordinating is a much better solution than expecting legislative dems

bsky.app/profile/aelk...
frankly the best thing to do right now would be to get Dem governors (who seem to be more responsive to local conditions than national politicians) to collaborate on sharing resources

difficult problem, I had thought that the frame needed to be that the Trump regime are seceding from the US* (c.f.: France libre vis-a-vis the Vichy regime, Taiwan/China sorta) but I'm afraid the window is going to close soon as the global realignment accelerates

Even if you skip over the open-and-shut case of both state and federal courts making them do it, this wouldn't be unprecedented. We've had states unlawfully fail to conduct federal elections before. 1862. 1864. The new Congress met anyway and simply had a bunch of vacancies from the rebel states.
I think my question is, if he issues an executive order cancelling the election, even if it isn't legal, if a bucketful of states comply on some level, what impact would that have on the overall election. Can it theoretically just be sandbagged by a handful of intransigent states?
