Cost of living cost of living cost of living.
1) Gov is not responsible for food prices, supermarkets are.
2) Gov is not responsible for rents, private landlords are.
3) Gov is not responsible for wages, only setting minimum wage.
4)Gov is not responsible for brexit, Tories/Farage are.

Phew, I was a bit worried for a while but glad to report the Guardian has found another study to use to bash Labour. You'll be surprised to know the article is far more nuanced, the decline started with Covid, but hey, who cares another day another Labour bashing, job done.

If anyone in the media is interested in talking about anything other than Andy Burnham, or Starmer & Labours imminent demise, it may be interesting & they might just learn something.
In case you missed what Labour did for you yesterday...
What does a Labour government ever do for you?

Well here are 14 things they have done TODAY!

How many can you say other parties even have the first clue about?

1. Upgrades to more grass roots sports facilities

2. 450,000 disadvantaged students to be supported by new AI tutoring tools

Frony page of the i u-turn over pubs, god forbid we have a Government who listens to people's concerns and makes some changes, this is why we can't have nice things.

This is how the BBC is reporting Matt Goodwin's selection as Reform's candidate in Gorton and Denton.

He's not an academic. He holds no academic position and hasn't done for quite some time.

The Guardian giving Burnham a platform to continue whining today, talk about flogging a dead horse.
January 27, 2026 at 2:27 PM
I'm awarding Gold Medals to everyone jumping through hoops pretending Burnham has been hard done by, the people of Gorton and Denton left bereft and pretending it's perfectly reasonable to walk away from the role of Mayor 19 months into a 4 year term. Just call it what it is fgs, opportunism.

We promised in our manifesto to “tackle unregulated and unaffordable ground rent charges”.

We’re honouring that commitment today by legislating to cap ground rents at £250 per year, changing to peppercorn after 40 years.

Around 50 it says in the article.. that’s about 375 who didn’t !!!! Maybe that headline would better reflect the truth about Labour.. the vast majority of Labour MPs are rightly backing the decision and getting on with the job of working for their constituents and the working people of this country

Just been told by someone sporting a 🔶️ in their name that it's undemocratic for Labour to insist Andy Burnham sees out his full term as Mayor. Do remember that next time you're voting, the hoops people will jump through to indulge in a bit of Labour bashing are gold medal standard.
January 27, 2026 at 9:23 AM
Can we cut the crap about the people of Gorton and Denton being denied a say in the selection process, constituents are never involed in the selection process. We do know nearly half a million who had a say in the Mayoral election in 2024 voted for Burnham, don't they count.
January 27, 2026 at 9:05 AM
Dress it up any way you like but in May 2024 420,749 voted for Burnham in the Mayoral election. They have every right to expect him to see out his term. Neither Burnham or his cheerleaders have mentioned these people, it's been all about his personal ambition.
January 27, 2026 at 8:57 AM
If I was a constituent of Gorton and Denton, I'd be tempted to give Labour a bloody nose in the by-election. Their Mayor who many of them will have voted for wants to ditch that role to become their MP. Not because he gives a hoot about them but to further his ambitions.
January 27, 2026 at 8:43 AM
This is what Burnham had to say about Johnson when he wanted to ditch the London Mayoral role to become an MP, he was right. The people of Manchester which include Gorton and Denton are being shown no respect by Burnham. If Labour lose the by-election it won't be down to Starmer.
January 27, 2026 at 8:41 AM
Burnham is treating the nearly half a million people who voted for him 19 months ago with utter contempt. Why are his supporters and the media behaving as if he's an honourable man who's being shafted by Starmer. Why aren't any of them interested in the people who put him into office.

I just looked up how many people voted for Burnham in the Mayoral election and how many voted for Gwynne in the GE. Burnham 420,748, Gwynne 18,555. So the votes of 420,748 are to be dismissed to allow Burnham to stand in the by-election. How is this nonsense being given house room.
January 26, 2026 at 6:57 PM
Apparently it's undemocratic to block Burnham from standing in the by-election, but it's perfectly alright for Burnham to walk away from his role as Mayor 19 months into a 4 year term. And it's wrong not to allow people in Gorton and Denton to have a say but ok to ignore those who voted in May 2024.
