The public knows about data collection, but we ignore it because we favor convenience and trust the brand names like Google, Microsoft, etc. that they wouldn't use our information to harm us. The echo chamber segment in your chapter is concerning though.

My husband I visited Istanbul earlier this month and viewed the Hagia Sophia. The Byzantine mosaics are phenomenal. Pictures cannot do them justice. I hope the renovations do no damage to the Biblically accurate paintings of angels near the dome.

Hagia Sophia was consecrated on this day in 537 AD. It was the third church to be built on this site, constructed by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I. When I saw it in October, it was in a shocking state. The dome will soon be dismantled as part of a major renovation. #AncientBluesky #skystorians 🗃️

The Mechanical Turk, an 18th century chess-playing device. Constructed in 1770, it appeared to play winning games of chess—but was ultimately proved a fraud. There was a person inside making the moves. Surprise! Today’s #AI is propped up by poorly paid ‘ghost’ workers, too🗃️🧪

A photograph of the Heart Mountain incarceration camp in Wyoming. Snow covers the ground surrounding the numerous camp barracks. Heart Mountain can be seen prominently in the background. The photograph was taken on December 27, 1944.

American Tree Sparrows have a lovely musical twitter. They often call while foraging to keep in contact with each other.

I have always loved public libraries, but having young children has exponentially increased my gratitude and sense of indebtedness to them. Our local library is such a huge part of our lives. The books, the programming, the very intentionally curated kids’ section. It’s all such a gift.

an actually good movie about the empty venality of the american media is of course NETWORK. an actually good movie about blithe indifference to a looming threat is JAWS.

I’m still doing research into the experiences of disabled people looking for employment. I’d be grateful if you could share this survey with people it might be of interest to. The survey is at:

I knew in advance that I'd be taking a trip during finals week, so I completed my finals early. I didn't expect my professors to revolve their lives around mine.

Sir, I’m a TA. I’m 26. I’m a Black woman getting a PhD. I actually enjoy teaching. One of my students admitted to me that they used AI to write one of their essays this term. I’m deeply troubled and saddened by this for us. #Blackademics #Academicsky #Academicchatter #PhDlife #studentlife
Friends, I don't think bluesky is the new town square. Announced our cool new AI tool to improve education (AlldayTA.com!). Response: that I'm "only good as firewood", shame!, gross, scab...and not from randos, but from academics and a Yale Review Editor.
The most attractive part of Istanbul is its street cats.

Everyone know the early seasons of TNG are not that good - but an underappreciated benefit of their forgettableness is that on a rewatch those early episodes always feel kind of new to me!
