Local LCC group. Join us in a borough where 🚶🏾‍♀️👨🏽‍🦽🛴& 🚲 are enabled for everyone; big, small, old, young. Getting greener and safer but still lots of work to do.
Looks like we're not hanging our helmets up any time soon. Our top two Dangerous Junctions have been on our to-do list for years. Nothing is happening. We need to get noisy.

@london.gov.uk and @islington-council.bsky.social need to step up

A small nugget of good news.
So it looks like Rachel Reeves has *not* abolished or cut back the cycle to work scheme. Perhaps she has read the Treasury's own 2023 assessment of the scheme, which found that in terms of creating modal shift, and thus boosting public health, it is very, very effective.

Today is not just #Budget day, it's also UN World #SustainableTransport Day.
We're calling on the Government to support public and shared transport, walking, wheeling and cycling, which have all these benefits and more.

So where is the political will to make the Finsbury Park gyratory safe ? @london.gov.uk

Since the counter was fixed, well over half a million cycle journeys have been made in less than two months. At peak times, records show that rush hour traffic consists of 250 motor vehicles ph in the am & 350 in the pm, considerably less than the number of bikes. Time for another cycle lane

Wheels for Wellbeing are concerned by reports that the Chancellor is considering putting a maximum price for cycles allowed through the Cycle to Work scheme.

We are calling for the scheme to be reformed rather than capped.

Today @londoncycling.bsky.social updated their most dangerous junctions. Once again, Upper Tooting Road is on top of the list. Our coordinator explains why the junction still has not been fixed ‼️

We know where the dangerous junctions are, but we don't understand why TfL, the Mayor and councils are so slow to act on them. Take LCC's 1-minute action calling for more action on London's most dangerous junctions. action.lcc.org.uk/junctions
Fix London’s dangerous junctions faster
Take 1-minute today to ask the Mayor of London for more, better and safer junctions faster – stop the flow of people being killed just because they’re walking, wheeling & cycling.

In other words, council leaders, the Mayor & TfL are all currently failing Londoners on road danger reduction & that's having a huge knock-on effect on other related issues such as 'mode share'. Londoners won't get around using sustainable modes if they're slower and less safe-feeling than cars.

“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas & city center in 2021.”
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.
