Playing around with arcade Cadash on a Pi since there’s no F2 core for the MiSTer yet and boy howdy does that emulation suck shit. I should probably just pony up for the ACA version.

If you own retail copies of both the NA and JPN versions of Sonic CD and any top-loading NA Sega-CD hardware, you can load the NA version, go to the RAM menu, swap discs, and play the JPN version on NA hardware. (If memory serves, it crashes during the ending, but it works perfectly up to that)

Kelly's stage in Bust-A-Move 2: Dance Tengoku Mix (Bust-A-Groove 2) features advertisements seen in Times Square including Beauty and the Beast on Broadway and Frasier, with slight editing

modified brand names also appear

(raw texture files without pallets applied for a clearer view)

Some interesting DNA I’ve noticed that’s shared by Saint Sword and Cadash on the Genesis (both developed by Cylcone, headed up by former Aicom staff): They have built-in anti-turbo measures.

Activate turbo fire at max, and you’ll start to notice the game periodically misses inputs…

Share a 90's movie that you think deserves more love.

And now I’ve completed 1CCs runs with all four classes on the PC Engine (your only option: There are no continues, except via a code that did not seem to work in the JP version).

I honestly prefer the graphics and music of the Genesis version, but there’s still plenty to love here…

The original arcade Gauntlet (1985) and the movie Spaceballs (1987) share both a staff member and a joke, which is probably not a coincidence.
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

Oof, found a nasty little bug in PC Engine Cadash.

The Priest has a spell that’s supposed to heal 64 HP of damage. Unfortunately, if you use it when you have between (I’m guessing) ~192 and 254, it will cause an overflow and you’ll lose HP.

(I haven’t been brave enough to try it at 192 yet)

Sega Genesis Cadash has Stern Father, PC Engine Cadash has Dream Daddy Devil. I kind of like them both.

PCE Cadash is solid so far if not as visually spectacular as the Genesis port.

One weird quirk I’ve noticed: If you’re right up against a block and try to jump forward, you’ll jump all the way straight up first and then move forward. Very strange.

I completed Cadash on the Genesis twice yesterday, with a pretty easy 1CC with the Fighter and a somewhat perilous 3CC with the Mage.

I was surprised by how solid this port feels, even though it axes some stuff from the arcade version (two of the character classes are MIA).

Possibly more evidence that this is based on the earlier arcade version: Although Cyclone completely redrew the mermaid sprite (I honestly think the Genesis version looks better!), it sure looks like they borrowed some…ahem…assets from the earlier version.

I was reading about the arcade version of Cadash on The Cutting Room Floor and then noticed that the information below holds true for the Genesis port as well.

Considering that the MD port of The New Zealand Story was based off of a horribly-unbalanced location test version, this absolutely tracks.
