Luas Finglas, a simple 4km extension of the Green line, won't start construction until 2029. This project received planning permission this month and should be full steam ahead. Instead, the government is delaying procurement starting for at least two more years.

This is the direct result of the shite the Sindo has been pushing out for years about "men" in women's sports. It is not some abstract debate, it hurts people, trans (and in this case cis) every fucking day

It wasn’t a failure if you acknowledge that cutting government spending wasn’t the goal
Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

1. Family reunification is ALREADY limited to "close family"

2. Forcing people to avoid claiming benefits they are entitled to and need under threat of being refused citizenship is horrifically cruel. That was the policy under Michael McDowell and it caused great hardship to the most vulnerable.
New: major overhaul of immigration laws to see citizenship denied to those who got welfare, or are in debt. Family reunification only for close family, tighter rules around self sufficiency. Changes to revoke residency for those who commit serious crimes

Didn't Paschal have some involvement in watering down the carers referendum so the State wouldn't be on the hook for more financial support too?
'In his exit interview this week, he told Morning Ireland: “The pinnacle of my ambition was to be the Minister for Finance.” Which, we can all admit, is a funny thing to say after you’ve just quit that job to move to what is very objectively a cooler job in every possible way.'

This week's column.

Donohoe has played a decisive role in every budget since 2016.

"Neither ABP nor the bats can be blamed for the fact that the developer hasn’t delivered on the planning permission in Killarney, just as they can’t be blamed for the estimated 90,000 other homes nationally (including c.45,000 in Dublin) which reportedly had unused planning permissions in 2025." 💯

Isn't this by design though? "Affordable housing" in Ireland means a combination of discounted house prices and people applying for multiple State schemes.

Fascinating stuff here. A bleak future for a public and civil service in Ireland who spend money on these "productivity gains" (they can hire fewer people or the people don't have to do this work) and not take any responsibility.
