Every designer and photoshopper you know has spent hours or days trying to mimic this look in photoshop without just literally hand-painting everything and, it simply cannot be done

There are thousands of tutorials out there that are like “This is sorta pretty close! I think!”

No takers on this, I see. Perhaps the world isn't ready.

Genuinely never understood the hype surrounding this seemingly sincere attempt at gravitas from the "Down With The Sickness" guy but evidently the people love it

God damn, I could have gone my whole life without hearing Disturbed's horrible cover of The Sound of Silence, and died happy.

i would love a future where all people being allowed to simply exist as they are in public is not considered a political issue

Oh, for sure. They’re not engaging with the text in any way, just seeing what they want to see.

Really thought Peterson was the bottom of the barrel for this kind of stuff, guess he really is an innovator. This is what reading too much Jung does to a mf.

Far be it from me to criticize the rich and powerful but in my defense my brain hasn’t been melted by infinite access to money and never being told no so I think I can be objective about this is a way a billionaire can’t

Very funny how all of these guys adopted a sort of late protestant millenarian Christianity for cultural reasons but anytime someone asks them about it they start talking about Invader Zim or whatever, they're trying to reverse engineer a cosmology out of a worldview they already hold

Mary Magdalene can be seen in the character of Princess Peach. Bluey is a sort of John The Baptist figure. The monster from the Honeycomb commercial has an antichrist spirit, in a way.

thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

Do I even want to know what this guy's whole deal is or is it not worth the psychic damage?

Maybe this is petty but it does feel kinda good when multiple sources confirm suspicions about someone you already don't like very much
