just a reminder that the united states is essentially operating a network of torture camps holding individuals in arbitrary detention, without access to appeal and rarely to counsel.

In 2015, the Intl Agency for Research on Cancer classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans.” Of particular concern for Indigenous communities as it is sprayed on the berries, animals, medicines and fish that make up their traditional food systems.

Israel told the UN to stay away from those areas for 9 hours while it kills all plant life. This is a war crime, and Israel is so comfortable committing war crimes that they announce them in advance.
Israel spraying pesticide (that are banned in the EU) over south Lebanon as part of its ongoing campaign of ecocide. The goal is simple: to make sure that life itself is rendered impossible.

This remains rarely reported in the news despite them doing so for years.

I thought this would be a good piece and then it descended into the snobishest of all snobby conclusions that the problem is that the amoral elite of our world don't have good writing and spelling skills. Bad grammar is not a central problem of our age--I think their victims will agree

The things Carney didn't say are the things he doesn't value, the battles he chooses not to fight.
"The world is looking to Canada for reassurance that a stable, thriving multiracial democracy is not only possible but desirable. This is the message Carney left out of his speech - and it is one our prime minister must urgently convey." - www.thestar.com/opinion/cont... @rondeibert.bsky.social
What Mark Carney didn’t say in Davos is what the world needed to hear most
Democracies everywhere are looking to Canada for reassurance that a stable multicultural society is not only possible but desirable.

The Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza has not stopped. On Saturday, Israeli military airstrikes across Gaza killed at least 32 Palestinians, including six children, in one of its worst assaults during the so-called ceasefire.

We can't lecture the world about shredding the international rules-based order and then pal around with the people who have been shredding it before our very eyes for the last 2 years - not to mention all the decades of occupation and apartheid that preceded this horrific moment.

I cannot tell you how much doubt was consistently directed at the Gaza Health Ministry’s casualty numbers and how much pressure was put on news organizations to couch those numbers as unreliable.

Biden himself said they were fabricated!

Be a helper like Alex Pretti. He was an ICU nurse who knew that his work of caring and helping others extended beyond the hospital and clinic walls. And for that, he was executed in broad daylight by federal ICE agents.

When I first heard this speech, I felt it sounded like it was generated by ChatGPT, and that feeling has grown for me. I know Carney says he wrote it himself but I don't buy it. The cadence of the speech is typical for AI generated stuff.
“We know the old order is not coming back. We shouldn’t mourn it. Nostalgia is not a strategy… The powerful have their power. But we have something, too: the capacity to stop pretending.”

— Canadian PM Mark Carney at Davos, basically announcing divorce from America and receiving a standing ovation
January 23, 2026 at 6:37 PM
Indeed Carney's speech was "a call for a non-aligned movement of intermediate imperial powers". I am struck by how many celebrate his call for collaboration of minor imperial players in the service of naked self interest, with complete disregard for the powerless who will suffer most.
A friend of a friend aptly called this moment a call for a non-aligned movement of intermediate imperial powers.
