I have been thinking a lot about how our LRT network could have looked if we embraced our high-floor regional network instead of building a more locally oriented system

It lead me to this map, which I think would have been an incredible and fast network

I am of the opinion that if we aren't sending the Metro Line out to Terwillegar, we should atleast make its southern leg a tram through a developed South Campus Farms

Metropolitan amalgamation is a good thing!

Don't allow the rich to self-segregate
These maps of major metropolitan areas show striking differences in tax bases in areas close to one another www.taxbasefragmentation.net/home :
—Compare the north vs south shore of Nassau County
—Coastal vs inland Miami
—Inglewood vs El Segundo
—East Palo Alto vs everything around it

Google maps gave me a transit trip that was 15 minutes slower than a very obvious trip

Is it just me or has Google maps gotten worse for transit just in the past few months?

This is why commercial activity should be legal everywhere. A taco truck turns sleepy North Berkeley station into a thriving nightlife area. And no major costs for brick and mortar!

I don't think it's a bad project, but for a city that says its declining non-residential tax is a massive issue, we sure did demolish a lot of em to expand the Yellowhead...

antivaxx bullshit pisses me off more than anything else on earth just because of the pure stupidity.

it is the definition of a luxury belief. we invented miracles that halt the spread of the deadliest diseases known to man but that has made us so comfortable that some morons turn against them

I think a lot of the motivations for this are not ideal, in terms of limiting the amount of people who can live in these beautiful neighbourhoods, but I think that it's so much better than covenants, and could lead to some really cool things!

I love this type of projects

It pisses me off that so much of the discourse is around bike lanes being added to the street

NO!!

The purpose was to thin the road and there was enough room to give it to bikes so they did

otherwise it would just be unused asphalt

I do love getting into the nitty-gritty problem solving of accommodating growth. Infill and mature neighbourhood repopulation is a good thing, but we do need to properly plan for good things

By 1.25 million we should have had 35% of our housing growth from redevelopment, we are at about 23% as of 2024

We SHOULD welcome 500,000 more people into our existing city

How do we increase this pace?

I calculated change in access to jobs by transit before and after Winnipeg's bus network redesign. 🚍

The median resident experienced an increase of 4% in access to jobs within 45 minutes, according to my analysis in R.

The redesigned network gets more people to more places within the same time.
