Loved reading A Gun For Sale by Graham Greene. Thank you GG for writing so many books! So excellent to find another one. This is grimy British murder on the eve of WW2. Sordid, furtive sex and corrupt old capitalist money. Also, how great was a world with the very idea of Penguin paperbacks?

Minneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.
This is so smart. I’m so impressed with all the different ways you’re helping your neighbors.

Having read the draft of the Australian government's new "hate" legislation, the scope it gives the government of the day to restrict civil society is massive. It's very clear that it could be used to outlaw a Palestine Action-style organisation www.abc.net.au/news/2026-01...
Hate laws to pass after Labor and Liberal deal
The Liberal Party struck an agreement with Labor to tighten the scope of a bill to ban hate groups, but the position of the Nationals is unclear.

Lead poisoning may have led to a generation of serial killers
The Pacific Northwest is known for five things: lumber, aircraft, tech, coffee, and crime. What might account for the abrupt rise and equally abrupt fall, between the nineteen-sixties and the turn of the century, of the “golden age” of serial killing? And why were so many of these brutes cradled in a crescent of psychopathy around Seattle’s Puget Sound? Fraser thinks the master key is to be found in the fact that the area south and southwest of Seattle was home to massive ore-processing facilities, and her subjects were reared in their murky shadows.

The Mutiny In Heaven doco SBS. The Boys Next Door were great to see before Rowland joined and after he joined. They all made good stuff afterwards but the music before leaving Australia and then the summer tours making Prayers On Fire and Junkyard were the best. youtu.be/QTKAZ2CjnsE?...
