87 civilians killed

"Experts in the laws of war and members of Congress, from both parties, have said the strikes are illegal because the military is not permitted to deliberately target civilians—even suspected criminals—who do not pose an imminent threat of violence."

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

Mason writes with an uncommon depth—lyrical, reflective prose steeped in landscape, memory, and the quiet truths people avoid in everyday life. His stories bridge continents and decades, drawing readers into a world where healing unfolds slowly, like water finding its way back to the riverbed.

The hepatitis B vaccine had been recommended for all newborns since 1991.

From 1990-2019, acute hepatitis B infections reported among children and teens fell 99 percent. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/16/w...
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

Plot/Idea: This heart wrenching narrative follows a young girl through a life marked by danger and instability, with adults who can’t be trusted and a world too interested in its own longings to afford her a place of safety.

Solid account of a few wealthy Montana landowners (including one who made bank fracking/coal mining/defacing/polluting Illinois) who cloak themselves in preservation of beauty to suppress the efforts of a couple of non-wealthy rancher neighbors to harvest wind and save their own properties.

Historical fiction is accepted facts relayed as imaginary events seen through artificial eyes. Done well, it can elicit the kinds of visceral reactions I experienced while watching a 96 year-old man’s eyes well up as he spoke softly about his remembered reality as a 22 year-old fighter pilot.

(Un)knowns, by Dave Mason. It’s where (un)knowns overlap that historical fiction comes alive. Dave Mason, gives some background.
