And finally, the post-modern network of far-right influence which seeks to export toxic ideology by force, the vanguard of a potential new world order (not so keen on that term, but it may well be accurate)

This is where our attention should be, follow the money.

Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

AI for leadership, development, democratization, scale, and digital public infrastructure.

These are some of the many terms we’ll hear world leaders tout over the coming weeks in the lead-up to the India AI Impact Summit taking place later this year.

Certainly, with AI you can produce a 2:2 essay much faster than you used to, so that effect probably applies more broadly. I'm still not persuaded it's a good thing.
Where is AI showing up in the productivity data?
Signs of its effects are already starting to peek through

Over that period, immigrants created a cumulative fiscal surplus of $14.5 trillion in real 2024 US $, including $3.9 trillion in savings on interest on the debt.

Without immigrants, US government public debt at all levels would be at least 205% of gross domestic product—nearly twice its 2023 level.
The US immigrant population generated more in taxes than they received in benefits from all levels of government every year from 1994 to 2023.

The Cato study provides the first-ever 30-year analysis of the fiscal effects of immigration on government budgets.

1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.”
This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵

Gavin Newsom has never had a homeless, a working unhoused, or an affordable housing advocate on his podcast despite governing California.

So yeah I think it’s weird that he’s entertained & platformed multiple fascists while grinning, nodding & relenting to their easily defeatable talking points.

The last time I checked a couple of years ago, the Home Office cost recovery target on visa processing was 202%, but in the latest annual report it was 241% - meaning that for every £100 it costs to administer the visa system, the department aims to raise £241 in fees.
