Today in FB ads for AI. "Perfect for students"! In addition to everything else I think we need to talk more about how this relentless messaging is shaping the way students think about writing and what this layering of tools--generators, checkers, humanizers--is doing to the way we see each other.

Also, by their own standards, the cops protecting the Capitol on Jan 6 should have opened fire all over.

When I spoke to local activists here in Minneapolis, they told me there is a palpable sense that ICE agents are out for blood, that they want a fight, and you can feel it. I finally saw that myself at the Whipple Federal Building. ICE feels emboldened by the state covering for murder. Untouchable.

Confronting an expressed preference for single party rule is still one of the unspeakables because it completely breaks bothsides ‘objectivity’ and there is no explicit editorial guidance on how to proceed otherwise.
whats missing from all the coverage is that the president is using the military to harass, brutalize and punish areas of the country that didnt vote for him

I can't describe how bad Minneapolis feels right now. My neighbors are pulling kids out of school. The public schools are offering remote learning until 2/12. We are having conversations in our alleys about how to protect ourselves. It feels like a military occupation with a blockade.
The US Department of Agriculture suspends all federal funding to Minnesota, effective immediately.

Taunting is not a justification for arbitrary executions. Collective guilt is contrary to the rule of the law. Resisting the state— even if unlawful and prosecutable—doesn’t justify a death sentence. Our colonial ancestors rejected that agents of the state are absolutely immune for their wrongdoing.

After years of hunting down and demonising T&S folks, researchers, defunding orgs, suing advertising orgs etc…. We finally see overtly that the free speech absolutism agenda was about cover for pedophilia and abuse of women.

The headline writing process is deeply broken over there. Rotten to the core.
Sexualized deepfakes created without a subject’s consent = “Racy”.

Axios - Former Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon is laying the groundwork for a 2028 presidential run. Although he isn't serious about getting elected, he wants to shape the debate and pressure Republican candidates to embrace an "America First” agenda. www.axios.com/2026/01/10/s...
Scoop: Bannon quietly making moves toward 2028 run
Publicly, however, he's calling for a third term for President Trump.

Basically, I’m thinking that the US, China, and Russia are three different versions of present-day late capitalism communism hybrids where the central autocrats limit free enterprise, free expression and politics to a single party system. Trump is taking us there. That’s his goal.

Isn’t it communism when the central authority sets prices and manages the details of factory production? Isn’t it communism when the central authority crushes public dissent with extrajudicial violence?

Gamergate is as big a moment to understanding the modern right in America as 9/11 is and there are still people who think it is insane to say that.
This. Gamergate is the skeleton key to understanding just how fundamentally antisocial the right is.
I think a lot of people who weren't online and involved in dealing with channers/Gamergate etc. haven't understood until now how deeply depraved the right is

this is what they are all like. they sincerely think not just that women/minorities should face discrimination, but that we should die

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.

Weird to be commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Am Rev while living under a government that has a) sent armed troops to occupy cities perceived to be too rebellious, b) rendered largely irrelevant the representative branch of government, and c) claimed imperial right to rule other countries.
