Maybe let's try winning this time.
yeah, especially when folks are pretty desperate to fit things into their own preconceived narratives of good vs bad, directionally correct smoothing often leaves us in a worst place than confronting the contradictions of our world. Too bad people can't be chill about it.

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.

It’s about oil and regime change.

And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.

It’s so funny that people tried to do “it’s not about the oil” and Trump immediately got up and said “it’s about the oil.” Never fail to think the worst and stupidest of Donald John Trump, he will embarrass you for the fun of it.

Trump is the world's greatest con man. What a fucking joke.
oh my god he posted so many action shots from the makeshift mar a lago situation room and they were just looking at tweets together on a gigantic screen

I unfortunately think that this might be the case at the moment. Anything other than declaring war on the US might suggest that she's now cooperating. Probably doesn't have much of a choice.

This move by trump to our Madero will be incredibly destabilizing and we must find a way to stop it.
January 3, 2026 at 7:42 PM
It sucks that in some ways the best case scenario in the very short term is that the coup basically works and Madero's vp carries out a transfer of power or runs Venezuela on behalf of the US. But I worry that any kind of success for Trump means we'll see more of this kind of regime change.
January 3, 2026 at 7:42 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if she was in on it or is now basically carrying out the transfer of power. Probably under the threat of arms. Terrible position to be in either way.
January 3, 2026 at 7:37 PM
Yeah, it sucks but so much bad shit has a way of trudging along these days despite the unthinkable happening left and right.
January 3, 2026 at 7:28 PM
But as always, nothing is certain and events are complex. Will have to wait and see.
January 3, 2026 at 7:22 PM
If Trump's assassination didn't really move the needle this certainly won't either way. I think it will probably be wash. Trump officially loses any kind of dove status that Dems can kinda pick up but if things are relatively stable from here on out, it probably won't help or hurt him all that much.
January 3, 2026 at 7:22 PM
Yeah I think this is basically right. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if some in Venezuela were in on Marudo's ousting. This is the worst kind of wait and see.
January 3, 2026 at 7:17 PM
The irony is dark. So many thought Donald was some kind of dove. People of different persuasions polarized themselves into not believing the obvious. Regime change was always on the table with Trump and his foreign policy would be worse than we could imagine.

Something I don't think folks have fully clocked is the degree to which just about everyone under the age of 45 in any natsecs adjacent space to the left of groypers is flatly saying "this is illegal as shit, that's all there is to it"
Yep there’s no legal justification here. Either we have laws or we don’t.
They didn’t even bother to ask for an AUMF, impeachment

Man, zohran's speech is some vintage Obama shit. Like winning New Hampshire type good. I haven't had this much hope in our capacity to do good since learning about the power of collective action.

I'm so fucking stoked to call @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social my mayor.
January 1, 2026 at 8:38 PM
There's no self inflated ego. No grand personal ambition. Zohran's free to let his vision for NYC drive his actions.

Due to things like coming up in DSA, public financing, being in a little over his head, means that Zohran lacks what proved to be a critical weakness in so many previous mayors.
I think people are underestimating how much Mamdani, even more so than your average elected leftist, see it as his top priority to not be seen as a failed mayor. He is not going to be another Brandon Johnson, I’d wager

NYCers have earned a day to just feel hopeful and happy. Nobody's in denial about political reality, and tomorrow will be here soon enough, but an inauguration is a celebration and an articulation of a vision, and it's okay to let yourself give in to the joy of aspiration.

And everything inbetween.
