A 🧵:
Fabulous figs, frightening foie gras, flattering liars! An ancient food thread that has it all; (If you're sensitive to animal cruelty, then be forewarned!)
In the name of Hades, what do you mean Thomas? What connects these seemingly very different things -namely figs and liver- together?

A classic Greek scene with a fig tree on the right of the image shading two chairs and a small round yellow table in a warm sunny summer day. An image from an ancient Roman mosaic, of a kid ushering two geese, one white on dark

But aside from food the Balkans has natural beauty galore, and wild life and mountains and forests, bears and wolves and shepherds leading a pastoral life, practising transhumance. Cheeses, and meats, and lake fish, smoked pork feature heavily in the diet alongside pies!
Black and white photo of pastoral scene of the Vlach people most likely who went up and down the mountains and the valleys of the Balkans with their animals Black and white photo with people in horses and donkeys carrying equipment of the shepherds and nomadic people of the Balkans. The small Lake Prespa with the ruins of St Ahilleios Byzantine church and snow capped mountain tops. A winter scene from Lake Ohrid, an old old lake shared between Albania and North Macedonia.

400,000 cars rumble past my home every month. The only peace I has was during the Pandemic. Lorries regularly shake the building as they fly down the road in the early hours.

Surprised by the news MTV is closing in the UK, not least because I haven’t watched it, thought about it, or had any awareness it still existed since 1998.
