WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN AGE OF NEW YORK CITY
New York to the haters: Drop Dead

in this week's Groove, @dmey.bsky.social makes the case that while the billionaires and conservative crybabies wail and gnash their teeth, New York is, in fact, at the start of a new golden age:

That’s basically every ‘no’ vote on City of Yes, plus the votes got by nixing the specific eastern Queens R varieties from the ADU requirements … plus Manhattan. I’d suggest this has the makings of a very anti-building/pro-neighborhood-character Council. (Charter revisions look set to be a *bfd*)

Menin got over $100K spent on her by Uber, $1,600 donation from Tony Argento, $1,000 from Randy Mastro, no response to questions about it:

this sucks. it sucks that menin will even accept her endorsement.
Menin says she'll work with Mamdani "on a shared agenda that makes New York more affordable."

GOP members backing Menin, tho, are likely to look to her to be a check on Mamdani. Vickie Paladino said she's with Menin because she "understands all perspectives." www.nydailynews.com/2025/11/26/j...

Eric Adams in his lame-duck period doing everything advocates have been asking him to do for years is interesting, to say the least. He's making it so that Mamdani can't claim all these easy wins in January simply be implementing plans Adams has put on ice for 4 years.

I hope New York Jews understand that the dual loyalty trope is used against them, too. If Cuomo feels comfortable attacking Mamdani in this way, what’s to stop him from turning on NY’s Jewish pop when it stops being politically advantageous for him to support?

If the 5 unions now holding out had accepted pattern bargaining, none of these contract work rules would've been discovered.
Let's see if the politicians and the MTA hold firm, and roll back some of these ridiculous rules. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/10/08/m...

An old work rule means that the MTA would have to pay millions of dollars just to provide a little extra service after special events like Mets games or the Ryder Cup.

I called my Senators about this a few days ago and it is already a tough time in my life before I had to beg for my existence and the existence of my friends and community from people who are supposed to represent us. It’s incredibly draining. We need others to speak on our behalf here, too.
hey, cis people. we need you to call every single elected official you've got, now.

maybe he's talking about the commuter buses
A line that stuck out to me (and I think nobody else) in yesterday's NJGov debate: Ciattarelli (GOP nominee) describing the turnpike as a "mass transit system."
Trump is rescinding road safety grants all over the country, in blue states and red ones.

The reason: those projects are "hostile" to cars.
