My take on the Jan 23 action in Minneapolis is that I don’t really care whether it’s a “true” general strike (we could argue about that all day).
What DOES matter is that it’s a bold and necessary escalation, and local labor leaders are publicly encouraging workers to join in anti-ICE resistance

The day after the new dietary guidelines were announced, a major grocery store already had big jars of beef tallow on the shelves. Many people had never even heard of beef tallow before then. Clearly, the beef industry was ready (and likely had a big hand in the guidelines).

When at full capacity -- 5,000 beds, it will cost U.S. taxpayers at least $1 million a day. These people were living their lives, contributing to their families and our country but now we will be paying for them to be underfed and mistreated -- against our will. And this is only 1 facility.

Surely this kind of thing is a problem for anyone detained, pregnant or not. Everyone deserves food, shelter, the ability to sleep, medical care. These are universal human rights.

Surely this kind of thing is a problem for anyone detained, pregnant or not. Everyone deserves food, shelter, the ability to sleep, medical care. These are universal human rights.
I really hope that whatever happens, the Democratic party can actually learn from Zohran's campaign. But I don't actually believe that they will. It has been heartening to see the groundswell of super, the grassroots people power.

Those of us in the path of the heat dome, what are you all doing to prepare? We're charging all our devices and putting gas in the car in case the power grid gives out, freezing water bottles and making ice cubes, getting cool packs, and updating/checking on our emergency bags.
