Oh but it does impact their experience. They realise they are sharing the space with people who don’t hate gay people. That’s more than they can bear.

This is exactly how women become excluded. Powerful men refuse to engage. Less powerful men back them up. So nice men can choose. Put in a male who can get answers or continue exposing women to ridicule. And that is how women get shut out. And it’s not just Trump though he spreads it, encourages it.

I’ve just been re reading Guards Guards and the Patrician there is not quite fully formed. He has deliberately allowed the drunken non-functioning Watch. After that, he starts exploiting the various abilities of the Watch members to the full. It’s the only book where he changes his mind.

It’s especially horrible to ordinary paid up perfectly sane Christians who can’t recognise their faith in that AT ALL. My wife and I got married with an all singing (literally) all dancing nuptial mass at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Glasgow. We are both left leaning voters.

It’s just ribbing. And if the Scots find any tiny little sensitivity they will rib on and on. The answer is ‘That’ll be right. Pound a minute to speak to us.’ Smile, laugh. ‘Save me from borrowing a fiver to last to the weekend anyhow.’ Laugh, move on.

It’s also massively unpopular. You do have to ask yourself what other party, faced with a very bad situation in the polls would try to introduce a massively unpopular and expensive and totally unnecessary measure?

I just had a run in with a neighbour that I’m usually on reasonably good terms with. My kids play with her granddaughter. She has some odd views, and a number of things I disagree with but usually I bite my tongue and make nice. But today she started on about the boats

That’s brave. I can’t think of anywhere safer than Glasgow to be honest. It’s a lovely comfortable city. It’s bluntly paranoid to think you’re going to be attacked.

I’m 73 and I spent my childhood in London. It was very multiracial then. Mum and Dad and I loved that. My Nana hated it. Much as I loved her she was a racist. The arguments haven’t changed. I’ve heard them quite literally all my life.

Nobody should in ever be persecuted in any way for their beliefs or race. Nevertheless, when state and religion get identified with each other it’s a recipe for disaster. It always has been. Attacking religious Jews for something a secular government has done is abhorrent but also due to confusion

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

Mum and I used to walk whenever we could. One chilly wet day we were walking in Wales when a very lost soldier in training appeared. He asked where he was, and we showed him on the OS, and how to get to where he was going. “Why are YOU here then?” “Oh we do this most weekends “ “WHY?”
