The sincere belief that all that matters is a “vision,” and that the actual work, methods, and sacrifices necessary to achieve that vision are totally meaningless… you might almost say, the ends justify the means? I wonder what other types of guys famously believed that

Here’s the thing:
Being really good at, say, NBA 2K does not make you a basketball player.
People who play 2K wouldn’t claim that they’re the same as a pro NBA player, and no one would seriously suggest that playing 2K could somehow improve your real-life basketball skills.

Honestly this is an excuse.
I know plenty of people who are not “naturally gifted” who do art.
It requires effort to learn. I feel you did not approach it correctly or think things happen over night.
Also hard work and skill is not “naturally gifted” as that undermines their efforts to draw.
