In that cut the amount of books people could get checked out. Hoopla and Libby all limit you for what are in reality if not for publisher limits things they could lend out unlimitedly.

Anti library. If companies could everything would be a short term rental. You wouldn't own anything and have to constantly pay. In the comic space we've seen a few attempts at subscriptions and they do run them.

Material reality for libraries. Their budgets get cut for cops budgets every year. Most libraries would love to have every book but they dont. And e-books as stated here are terribly handled cuz publushers actually hate libraries. You don't need a time machine to see this but they used to be openly
