I dunno man, I like plenty of directors / writers who return to the same themes and ideas over and over but generally that stuff is more interesting than "what if this superhero said cusses."

James Gunn has made more movies where a superhero imprints on a particular era of music than Scorsese has made mob movies at this point.

Bluesky users continue to believe that "Films are made in the editing room" is a literal fact rather than a figure of speech, all while claiming that certain Academy Award-nominated editors were erased from history and didn't get their flowers for apparently conjuring entire films out of thin air
Lucas wasn’t great— his wife was.
Same goes with Tarantino and Sally Menke.

There is a sequence in “Way of Water” of a character grinding his own skull to dust in his hands.

It’s the kind of choice that distinguishes Cameron from so many of his would be imitators.

The success and narrative straightforwardness of “Avatar” tends to obscure the more insane choices Cameron makes.

Like having seventy-something Sigourney Weaver play a teenager.

People wonder what distinguished these films from generic blockbusters. It’s choices like that.

Whatever this phenomenon is called, it also applies to trying to look up classic comics art of Marvel characters only to have the vast majority of the search results be stuff from the live-action slop of the past seventeen years
idk what this phenomenon is called but i find it really annoying when i’m trying to look up 1980s graphic design and all the search results are like a contemporary vaporwave parody of the 80s instead of actual stuff from the era

General discomfort and criticism over this scene is of course valid, though it's pretty funny how nerds bluntly use this shot from it as a means to shut down discussion much like how the creep in the movie uses his Romeo & Juliet card

Holy Trinity: David Lynch, George Lucas, Zack Snyder

Anti-Trinity: Matthew Vaughn, James Gunn, Taika Waititi
a while back some friends and I floated the question to each other of a holy trinity and anti-trinity for our individual movie tastes. I came up with this:

Holy Trinity: Abel Ferrara, David Cronenberg, Nobuhiko Obayashi

Anti-Trinity: Ti West, Alex Garland, Martin McDonagh

Miles Morales co-creator Sara Pichelli says she does not get any royalties from the ‘Spider-Verse’ films, Insomniac games, or merch

The levels of spite, illiteracy, and bullheaded rigidity a person must have to conflate ZS Superman and McFucking Homelander are incalculable
Getting flashbanged by an Internet person you thought was cool via their belief that Zack Snyder is an objectivist and/or that his Superman is comparable to Homelander is the media-literacy version of finding out that an artist you really like is a Zionist

It's a nothing statement, Aardman isn't switching to ai. The kind of "ai" here is the same automation stuff we've had for years, but renamed ai to attract investors.
