It is shocking that Trump is quickly tearing down a portion of the White House. But isn’t the bigger story that this action is of a piece with his autocratic presumption that he can unilaterally destroy public goods without any public consultation or explanation?

I do not, however, have any sympathy for the NYT, which stopped reporting actual news years ago. They don’t even “both sides” it anymore. Pretty much just a Republican talking point rag at this point. But Wordle is fun.

Graduate seminar did a deep dive on Thomas Paine’s Common Sense yesterday. At the line, “in America the law is king,” they (14 students from 6 countries) burst out laughing. I've been doing this for 35 years and this is the first time that was a laugh line.

Democrats should be drawing up legislation right now, this very minute, to bar Trump from helping himself to $230 million in taxpayer funds from DOJ. Challenge Republicans to hold a vote on it. Push this so hard in the media that every GOP Senate and House candidate is pressed to comment on it.

My (RI) Senators amongst them. @whitehouse.senate.gov and @reed.senate.gov both voted to advance a judicial nominee who refused to acknowledge the results of the 2020 presidential election, or comment on the Jan 6 riot? Incredibly disappointing that my Senators are enabling fascism.
