A reader (who wished to remain anonymous for reasons of naturalization status) passed along to me their version of a Battle Hymn of Minneapolis, which I now share with you.

'Tis, as they say, a banger.

The East Wing of the White House, likewise, wasn't in need of being torn down. My bet is that the same fate awaits the Kennedy Center.
I guess this might not be obvious to folks who aren’t in DC/regular attendees, but: The KC is a gorgeous venue. It is not run down, and certainly is not remotely in need of the kind of complete renovation that would require shutting it down for two years.

I needed to hear this, and maybe you do too. There is so much going on that we need that solid grounding.
i know it seems absurd that I’m telling you to buy a little journal for the resistance. i know. the goal is to do exactly enough self-reflection to have a solid grounding for what you DO. and then DO IT.

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

I remember Ship on Tumblr demonstrated this by enunciating "Wetsuits rental. Where to buy wetsuit new. Scuba gear. Scuba wetsuits for kids. Wetsuits to rent good quality. Wetsuits matching. Wetsuits reviews. Wetsuits for dogs" into their skeptical friend's phone mic. Hours later, wetsuit ads!

I was hanging up curtains one time, and I sort of shouted over at my spouse that I wished they made apartment friendly curtain rods that you didn’t have to screw into the wall. Literally the next day I started getting ads for them.
Do you remember when people were saying "I think my phone is listening to me, i'm getting ads for stuff I spoke about" and people said "They arent listening to you, they're just this good at predicting your interests"?

Well, it happens they were doing exactly that.

I wrote my team a super transparent message today, explaining that compartmentalization is impossible and I'm likely going to be bad at my job for a while.

ICYDK, publishing is in a decline. Many authors who have had dependable contracts in the past are now scrambling to make ends meet and seeing lower advances and fewer sales than ever. If you see lots of book publicity posts, it's because we're scared and trying to keep our jobs during The Horrors.

The reason journalists are so particular about what’s off the record and about granting anonymity is that many of us take that very seriously. If I promise to protect your identity, I’m not just saying I won’t print your name. I’m saying I will go to jail for refusing a court order to name you.

Giacchino is one of the best composers working right now, and I will not be taking further questions at this time. (In particular, the erudite and playful goofballery going on in the score of the first Doctor Strange movie really needs a whole paper written about it.) 🙂
This was my favorite Giacchino score in a second.
giacchino’s score for the Batman is entirely overshadowed by that big ostentatious motif but his theme for the movie is really wistful and tender in a way that feels almost sweetly naive. really works for the movie’s take on a guy trying to smother the hurt kid inside with an angry demon
