The Mayor of Portland, OR after ICE shot tear gas into a crowd

“To those who..work for ICE: Resign..Through your use of violence and..trampling of the Constitution, you have lost all legitimacy and replaced it with shame. [G]o home, look in a mirror, and ask yourselves why you have gassed children”

On one hand I do not believe in the “he’s doing X to distract us from Y” narrative but on the other hand the whole Closing The Kennedy Center thing really does feel like a “How can I get everyone to stop talking about how I pooped my pants at the press conference”

This administration’s treatment of a NATO ally is both incredibly disgraceful and contrary to U.S. national interests.
Such is the outrage in Denmark over both Trump’s desire for Greenland and disparaging remarks about NATO that one of the country’s leading newspapers devoted their Saturday front and plenty of room inside to the bios of all 44 Danes slain during NATO missions in support of the US

In many of the first generation of modern concentration camp systems (near the turn of the twentieth century), the vast majority of deaths were caused by disease and malnutrition. Most of the victims were women and children.

I recorded this today, in Portland, Oregon, at a huge march to the ICE facility in SW. The crowd was full of cyclists who had ridden there in memory of Alex Pretti; members of several labor unions; and ordinary citizens of every age, including this little girl. So of course ICE deployed tear gas.

Have a lot of thoughts about this that I can’t share here, but I think a big part of ICE’s shittiness is a combination of laziness, incompetence, and misaligned incentives. This is a law enforcement organization whose culture is the Always Be Closing scene from Glengarry Glen Ross.
scenes from occupied Minneapolis: “A man sitting in a car watching a house woth a gun on his lap and a mask on his face. Claims he didn't know the house has already been raided 2x.”

There is so much corruption in this one story. Not even mentioned in the summary, the $500M investment in World Liberty Financial came before the UAE won access to U.S. AI chips
In the days before the presidential inauguration, an Emirati sheikh paid $187 million to entities controlled by Donald Trump’s family to take a major stake in one of the president’s crypto companies, World Liberty Financial.

We were cured of measles; and now it's spreading and will become a midterm election issue. Really bright, GOP.
Because I'm talking about measles. It is also A VERY VERY VERY CONTAGIOUS VIRUS. If someone is in a room and has measles and then leaves that room and you enter that room within TWO HOURS (depending on humidity) you can get measles.

And people are contagious for four days before the rash appears.
::taps mic::

beyond being an absolutely miserable illness, measles can cause immune amnesia. It wipes out your immune systems memory of how to fight every infection, every vaccine you've ever had.

If there comes a day when police put their bodies between the feds with guns and their targets, I will praise the police for doing so. I don’t expect to see that day. It might even be a dangerous escalation. But until that day comes … I assume they are helping the feds.

Bill has this exactly right; a military force of storm troopers acting lawlessly. Here in the U.S., not in a WWII German documentary.
ICE and CBP agents seem to enjoy gratuitously breaking glass—from car windows to store fronts to homes. It’s an expression of unchecked power and dominance: “We’re in charge. We break and shatter what we want.”

And nights of broken glass have been a harbinger of worse to come.
