Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

The Shape of the Ruins by Juan Gabriel Vasquez is maybe the best novel that you could read right now? He weaves together such a brilliant tale of what it's like to live through history and conspiracy that I can't think of anything else I'd recommend someone read right now.
Some people really like Isabel Allende but after reading The House of the Spirits I'm not one of them. The prose is just too damn purple.

ICE detained Arlit Maria Martinez on her way to work. 2 days later, her 15 yo son died of cancer. They wouldn't let her out to say goodbye. The family had planned to move back to Mexico prior to the cancer diagnosis but stayed for his treatment. Now, Mr Martinez has lost his wife to ICE & his son.
