Pretty funny given that 90% of the work of AI writing, from what I can tell, is keeping the AI from forgetting the characters and plot from chapter to chapter.

Plus, writing is not just regurgitating the contents of your brain onto a page. The act of writing helps you figure out what you actually think. Skip that process, and you've learned nothing and brought nothing of yourself to the work. It's pointless activity that adds nothing of value to the world.

IIRC the rationale--which did convince me at the time--was that Soylent would replace boring "eating for fuel, not pleasure" weekday meals, and you'd make gourmet meals on weekends. In practice, I found that this regimen made life even drearier than ever, with the added bonus of severe diarrhea.

If these people had any taste, they wouldn't be satisfied with output that is, by design, derivative and mediocre. Using AI to generate shitty books is fine because it's all the same to them. Why not skip the hard work when you see no difference between low-effort crap and something truly great?
