Something I'm seeing a lot of is volunteer service operators moving those services to a different account. I wonder if making it easier to do that would be a good thing to lobby the devs for.

I was talking to some young friends and I mentioned Brendan Eich. They asked "that's the homophobic guy who made that crypto browser right?"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Is it just me or has everyone been getting sick way more often? Is it just bias because we let each other know now whereas before no one mentioned it?

I'm running into problems: I am now at the center of almost everything gardening-related that happens on bluesky. That's probably not the best for anyone. It's definitely not ideal for me.

Sooo I've been off my meds and didn't realize how much time had passed. About to catch up.

ok i haven't been online a lot because i had to uninstall the app from my phone due to notifications. I honestly am not even that busy i just have ADHD and a million tiny tasks that are all more urgent and important than the 3 or 4 things that need to get done to migrate the gardening feed.

Also do not follow those aggregator accounts that post a bunch of stolen pictures of foxes or whatever without any attribution. I've seen a number of those cycle through various identities - they may be just trying to accumulate a lot of followers so they can sell the account to some bad actor.

Huge win from @franzanth.bsky.social creating a Content Scraper Blocklist: bsky.app/profile/cont...

It's a blocklist for the kinds of engagement bait accounts that repost stolen content, often with misleading captions.

Trying to gently inform my family members that in an age of intrusive recommendation algorithms, "I looked at <social media platform> and all I saw was <something very specific>" is a great way to tell your grandchildren more than they needed to know about you.

Another long workday today so won't get around to the notifs... but! The US regional feeds are finished and just waiting for a bit of input from me which means we can get things running and move to onboarding Europe in the next couple of days.

the “Elonia Musk” thing rests entirely on “ha ha what if he was a woman” and that is so self-evidently transphobic and misogynistic that I do not understand calling yourself progressive and unironically using it as an insult

FYI There actually is an appeal process for folks I've blocked. You have to delete your account and make a new one.

never forget what a massive drain means testing is on resources. It's literally cheaper for schools to give everyone free lunch than to figure out who really "needs" it

The first thing y'all need to let go of if you're serious about building community is the hangups about "deserving" and "earning"
It's true for food stamps, it's true for welfare, it's true for mutual aid: the cost of making sure scammers don't get anything is being certain that people who really do need help won't get it.

I'm still trying to get a few more of the US feeds working, just as an update.
This is taking a lot longer than I expected!
Ok plant people, I think this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to have volunteers run their own regional feeds. Those feeds will be aggregated into one big international feed. The existing gardening feed will be unchanged, it'll just be federated in the way it is run. 🌱

ok im having a really bad day (completely unrelated to anything online) and skyfeed is barely working anyway so im going to leave all those notifications unread and bury my head in the sand for like 24 hours

I do also have a feed for US Lawmakers. It happens to be powered by a moderation list so technically you could block or mute all of them at once. Here you go: bsky.app/profile/did:...

To be clear, we do have plans for scaling, we just kinda expected more than a couple days notice before getting blasted with a million new users a day.
The team is rapidly deploying fixes and new software to adapt. More servers in the mail.

🪶🐍🦊🦑 Feeds! I’m aware that contributors’ tagged posts are occasionally not being included in the feeds. Many other feeds seem to be having this issue. Skyfeed/Bluesky weren’t ready for this user influx & I imagine things will be buggy while both continue to adjust. Thanks for your patience!
