i’ve read a lot of smart predictions about what happens when the AI bubble bursts, but they all left me dissatisfied.

i wanted something that captured what *could* happen, if we use this crisis as an opportunity.

i’m struck by how hard rogan is working to steelman him. he’s not really jumping on the “lmao a vulgar robot” schtick; he keeps saying “and it’s going to get better, right?” i think rogan can anticipate his own audience’s ick with musk in this moment and is trying to keep them on side.

A fine little article, like a modern-day Book of Isaiah.
Or maybe Jeremiah.
Look, I'm saying that it's angry, and apocalyptic, and is intensely immanentizing the eschaton.

genuinely the world would be a better place right now if journalists did this.
Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

re: roblox dude's interview crashout. the thing he wants to say but can't is "at scale, kids are gonna get hurt. that is the price for scale." the thing nobody wants to say out loud is "maybe scaling to a level where harm isn't manageable is bad, and scale should be contained"

wicked for good does not measure up to the first one but i did have the joyous experience of sitting next to two teenage girls who i can confidently say are jonathan bailey’s BIGGEST FANS. when he said “you’re beautiful” they collapsed into ecstatic giggles for like 30 full seconds. bless them.

i am not surprised that NVIDIA has managed to keep the party going for one more quarter—their financial machinations were designed to do just that. but i will be *hugely surprised* if i have to wait more than three months for this essay to change from the future to the present tense.

not the point but it is telling that cotton is talking on fox but still says that if there were actually atrocities, *cnn* would be covering them. because he knows fox news absolutely does not give a fuck.
Cotton on Trump's boat strikes: "Use common sense. If any of these had been boats full of fisherman or refugees, CNN would've already been on the ground & interviewed all their families & told their stories. We can be confident all of these strikes have been against cartel-based drug traffickers."

but "I won't vote for somebody who DOES support trans people" is NOT considered a hostage-taking purity test

then we aren't against hostage taking, we're just choosing our preferred hostage

this should be obvious to anyone who has ever tried to drink more than one thimbleful of mead in a sitting. it is a drink that lends itself to moderation, for which the vikings were not known.
I've written about mead and its popular perception for The Conversation. theconversation.com/the-truth-ab... Mildly concerned that by pointing out that the Vikings (probably) didn't drink (much) mead, I will have annoyed all the re-enactors, many of whom have swords oh dear.
The truth about Vikings and mead might disappoint modern enthusiasts
The standard drink was far more likely to be ale.
