Claudette is a true American hero. A woman who took a courageous stand for her rights. An American whose actions helped inspire a generation.

We should all remember her and all those who are still fighting against injustice and for our Constitutional values.
Today we said goodbye to Claudette Colvin, whose act of courage at age 15 was almost forgotten, but spurred Rosa Parks and one of the greatest movements for change. Claudette knew that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. I was honored to speak at her funeral. RIP my friend, RIP.

The AFL-CIO mourns our AFGE union brother, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, who was killed today by federal agents.

Our thoughts are with Alex’s loved ones. The Trump administration’s operation—and their actions aimed at stoking violence and chaos—must end.

Again, this is a terror campaign against nonwhite families, regardless of legal status. It is important to understand that the objective of the operation is not just to ethnically cleanse the US, it is to be so cruel to nonwhite people that nonwhite immigrants stop wanting to come here.

Signs about the history of slavery in the U.S. and the 9 people George Washington enslaved are being removed right now at the President’s House Site in Philadelphia, across from Independence Hall, months after the Trump administration threatend to do so.

How far we have not come in 250 years.

This is not a rational person. And this is deeply disturbing coming from an American President. NATO is not our enemy—they are unequivocally our closest friends and allies.

At this point, how can you not call into question the mental fitness of this President?

Congress could mandate that states use proportional representation, with parties getting a number of seats proportional to their share of the vote. Advocates are already pushing for some states to experiment with this reform.

MLK was only 39 when he was killed. Growing up, I thought that was old. But I’m 43 now and I’m stunned by the burden he shouldered at such a young age. I’m also a lot more aware of how hard it is, at any age, to carry the hopes and dreams of an oppressed people on your shoulders, as so many do.

There are too many stories like this, members of tribal nations, American citizens, being stopped and detained. One time is unacceptable, what is happening is a travesty of justice and fails basic American values.

It’s not even so much about “sane” vs. “insane” anymore, as it so often was circa 2020. The fundamental split today is between the *decent* and the *indecent.* It is monstrous to desire, excuse, sanitize, whitewash avoidable killing even of one’s perceived foes.
