Every trans person who is on a knife edge. On one side is employment for another day. On the other is whether a random transphobe posts "Ick, gross, trans person" with your picture and employer name, and it goes viral. You will get fired, from pretty much any company, if that happens to you.

When I was in practice, I played a small role in helping a Somali hero (I don’t use that word lightly) gain asylum in this country. He was brutally tortured for educating women and girls. This president is garbage.

Knowing that cis colleagues will gleefully and glibly Monday morning QB every decision I make to raise their own profiles … makes that fear worse.
I spend every single day of my professional life terrified that someone will choose me as the sacrifice to get them on the right wing grift circuit. That fear harms me and my work. It makes me overly cautious and self-censorious. It invades every decision I make, try as I might to resist it.

I’ll shut up about this but please note the classic move here. He calls a trans woman nasty for saying “dumbass” while contributing to a transphobic pile on. Then, he calls his own engagement “respectful.” We’ve all seen this a million times.

Rather disappointing but not surprising is seeing a cis white gay professor who is clearly and understandably working to raise and hold onto his national prominence deciding that this is the time to play devil’s advocate and then QTing a trans woman to drag her and call her nasty.
