We are canceling our trip to Canada to spend his limited time with our brave cat on this plane of existence. Anyone have any reading suggestions for us? The longer and more tragic the better

I hope to live up to the example of my brave and wonderful fellowship director Roger Bedimo!

We can make choices to let people with TB die...or we can be the cure. Overall this book gave me a lot of hope despite dark times, there are still a lot of wonderful folks out there fighting for the dignity and health of those with TB. I'm glad to be a small part of that community.

Just finished reading "Everything is Tuberculosis"by John Green.
As a provider who's cared for at least 1000 patients with active TB...this book re-emphasized that the real threat is humanity, not the bacillus...

I think that there were some cheers for the Canadians too!
Personally I just hope both teams had fun 😉

From a poetry collection by Mary Oliver, where after a hundred poems showcasing gentle observations on nature and animals, she hits you with this
OF THE EMPIRE
We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.

It's really scary...never thought I would see measles and am reading up on the clinical presentation. Checking titers to protect who I can.

Should I also point out the OB and ID care deserts in Texas? The antiquated antibiotic recommendations that need urgent reevaluation in light of sepsis numbers like this?! #IDsky

NEW: Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%.

“My heart is moved by all I cannot save:
so much has been destroyed
I have to cast my lot with those
who age after age, perversely,
with no extraordinary power,
reconstitute the world.”

Blood does not beget loyalty.
A page of a book likely named “Stars at Last”. The poem title seems to be “burn the family tree down”. The poem reads:
“I am the villain for not being meek
for not falling into place
with the
long line of women before me.
silence meant survival
but I don't just want to exist,
I want to live.
I am the first to start the smoke
so that my daughter
can breathe fire.”

This is making me think about the scene in Fahrenheit 451 where the protagonist had to memorize Ecclesiastes because all the books were burned...

I use the STI guidelines so often in my day to day work. Thankfully folks archived these resources.
We have had an ongoing STI epidemic in the US for the past 5 years. Congenital syphilis rates that are among the highest for developed countries.
People use CDC guidelines globally too!

This is a chaotic and frightening time for researchers, but it is likely more terrifying for patients. As an infectious diseases doctor, I want to say that we are still here. We are advocating for you, and care about you: people with HIV, immigrants, transgender folks, and everyone else. #IDsky
