On Friday, City Council voted to undo Mayor Frey’s cuts to our sidewalk plowing pilots because the return of winter shouldn’t mean risking slips and falls on icy sidewalks every time it snows. Safely getting around our city should be a basic function of our government.

Twin Cities- it’s day 6 of the federal occupation.

Today’s assignment:

1. Keep defending our neighbors. We are hearing inspiring stories every day of abductions disrupted.

2. Check on your neighbors who may be terrified.

3. Spend some money in an immigrant owned business.

An evergreen connection between poetry and activism:

Big changes can start with *small* actions: that tiny choice to show up to a training, wear a button, post online, wear a whistle as a necklace, stuff that is too easy to cynically write off as performative. Every small action opens a door.

There are a lot of ways to show up for and with communities facing challenges in this moment.

You shouldn’t - in fact you can’t - do everything, you just need to do something.

Take stock of your skills, networks, resources; engage them for good. Keep learning & showing up.

It matters.

It’s very odd that we entrust the clearing of public sidewalks (which are part of our transportation network) to private property owners & businesses.

We get results like this business that cleared only their walkways & left the rest of the sidewalk covered in snow.
