This is what it actually means to be "cancelled" (i.e. fired from your job) for standing by your beliefs

(In this case: the belief in basic human equality and dignity)

I don't know about you, but I'll be picking up a copy of Robin Ince's book this Xmas
Robin Ince reveals to last night’s audience at a recording of Infinite Monkey Cage that the BBC has forced him to resign over his support of trans people

Dems were in power 12 of the past 25 years with the chance to at least *attempt* to reduce the power of the police state and instead gleefully and massively expanded it at every single opportunity.

They didn't even pretend to oppose any of this shit on principle, only the aesthetics.
WOW. @haleaziz.bsky.social with a new scoop: ICE now gets a running list of every person who is going to be taking a domestic flight inside the United States from the TSA and runs it through their database looking for targets. This explains the Babson College student's arrest.

66% support either a single national government program or a mix of government and private programs.

The total goes up to 92% if you include support for the continuation of Medicare and Medicaid.

Only 7% said there should be no government involvement of any kind in health care coverage.

Chavarria, a U.S. citizen, was held at the airport "for more than four hours and released only after he finally agreed to let the agents search his smartphone, tablet, and laptop computer. The agents...informed him that he had no Fourth Amendment right to resist." @pacificlegal.bsky.social is suing.

I'm searching Getty Images and found some photos credited to the Boston Herald that redact the faces of ICE/federal agents. They don't redact the face of the guy they're arresting.

I'm curious about the ethics of doing this. I don't think I've ever seen this on Getty before.

This is lovely. All can be true
-There is a real need for internal change in higher ed to counter tendencies toward groupthink & monoculture
-The Fox/MAGA caricature is absurd and unrecognizable from the inside
-The authoritarian assault would make things vastly worse by destroying academic freedom
Column worth reading, by former two-term GOP governor who discovers that Harvard is not the hellscape of intolerance and group-think that the MAGA and its media are constantly telling him about.

(Think of parallels in so many other realms.)
