Thinking of @ruhee.ca's musings on the joys of building tools for people as I quietly add a locale gallery to this cleanup PR.

The last ~year I've really embraced the quieter, more rote maintenance involved in good software and that post stuck with me/is a good part of why.

Dads love to hit send on a PowerPoint presentation, end the work day, and go upstairs and annoy their kids by spending the hour before we have to leave for basketball by putting on a concert DVD from their own high school years of music nobody but Dad likes, don't we?

My LinkedIn post about putting your meetings in a "nap sandwich" is not the runaway hit that it was in my dream, which incidentally happened during a "top slice" nap.

The interoperability of email is very similar to the existence of libraries in that it would be considered a utopian dream if we didn't already have it
Every time someone tells me that interoperable protocols are too complicated for the average person, I point out that they use email and the web.

The goal needs to be to get atproto to the point that it is just "how the internet works" and the details fade into the background like https & smtp.
Today, your most-used interoperable protocols are probably smtp, delivering your email, and https, loading web pages

Interoperability means you can use Gmail and Outlook, or Chrome and Firefox, to access the data that's moving over the same agreed-upon (protocol) rails

ATProto does that for social

All the anti-war and anti-occupation protestors were right. All the far leftists were right. All the “woke scolds” and your friend who’s “too woke” were right. They were somehow even more right than they may have realized at the time. But really, it was always obvious they were right.

db hawkes RIP

So sad to report this but he was the earliest still-active radio programmer at CIUT, going back well before we got the FM license. He recorded just about every Caribbean at that played Toronto. Will miss him very much.

Some days I worry I'm not a good parent, and then other days, I go to get my likely-fallen-asleep–during–bedtime partner and I whisper in "It's time" and because I can't help myself, I say it twice, and because my *kid* can't help himself, he pops up in cobra pose and goes "It's Vader time!"

In case you’re wondering whether the pro-ICE reactions to Renee Nicole Good’s murder are natural, here’s a comment that was just left on my video. My video about anti-transgender bias at the BBC. I haven’t made a video about Good yet.

If you really can't be bothered to leave Twitter *and* you're going to just screenshot your tweets over to here, it's honestly kind of rude to not take the extra few seconds to copy/paste the alt text.

Like, there's a doormat right there and your boots are muddy.

Now writing some new scripts that will dynamically generate "shows" for the Music Videos channel, like a weekly countdown and a few "new in genre" shows. I'm a few local comics, a couple of cameras and a small warehouse away from reviving MuchMusic.
The result is (currently) 13 channels.

Bluey
The Simpsons
Purowave
AEW
Mr. Bean
Family Movies
Nature
Kids TV
Movies
Movies 2
Movies 3
Music Movies
Music Videos

Fewer ads in my life, it resolves a lot of choice paralysis and what used to be a bug (missing part of the movie) is now a feature.

My very limited PR to limit that false claim:

Yay. Megacorps out there making the claims, me taking spare time, again, to try to fix them.

I made my own TV channels last year.

With streaming prices creeping up, inconsistent content availability and quality, increasing difficulty avoiding ads and an ever more hostile UX to the left of me and IPTV, which really only solves the cost issue to the right of me, I decided I'd build my own.
