The 2024 solicitation requires that applicants "have completed no more than one academic year (according to institution's academic calendar) while enrolled in a graduate degree program," which allowed graduate students at the beginning of their second year to apply.

The new NSF GRFP solicitation is up as of today, and it looks like second year graduate students may no longer be eligible...

The 2025 solicitation states that applicants must "have completed less than one academic year in a graduate degree program"

Good news! Still no solicitation or guidance but as of this morning it seems NSF has moved the deadline into November.

Keep up the pressure!

Sign the letter and leave a comment about what #NSFGRFP means to you.

🚨 NEW: Climate change is already causing 30,000 deaths per year - a global annual economic loss of $100-350B USD - but the true damage is probably 10x higher. Out TODAY in Nature Climate Change: the first systematic look at the science of "health impact attribution" 🔓 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
"Health losses attributed to anthropogenic climate change," a brief communication in the journal Nature Climate Change. There's a map showing regions of the world, and pie charts of relevant studies as they apply to different health impacts like "heat-related deaths" and "maternal and child health"

This is the shit they’re defunding. Scientists can make your teeth see so you can get back to balling and they want to take that away from you forever

TIL that for some people with irreparably damaged corneas, you can pull one of their teeth, drill a hole in it, install an artificial lens, sew it into their cheek (so tissue attaches), then pull it out and stick it in their damaged eye, and ... it works fine!?! www.nbcboston.com/news/health/...
Man, 34, is no longer blind after tooth is implanted in eye in 'crazy' surgery
Tooth-in-eye surgery sounds like science fiction, but it can help people with severely damaged corneas see again. A patient and his doctors describe what it's like.

RFK Jr.'s #2 is stepping in as acting CDC director. You need to call your Congress people now and demand hearings until RFK is forced out. They're politically weak for another 48-72 hours, then they'll do unbelievable damage in the next month. Show me that you called and I will give you a reward 👇

I said this elsewhere but the way that the white male dominated field of economics is defending Lisa should tell you how serious this move is. Not that they wouldn’t — her work is stellar — but this isn’t a case like Harvard where colleagues are willing to risk losing a colleague.

Earlier this year, I told people to consider buying savings bonds and moving money to banks in other countries in case something bad happened to US banks and the Federal Reserve. I didn't want to be right, but the campaign to fire Fed governor Lisa Cook is alarming.

If you’re unwilling to take risks, imagine a better world, and be brave in your efforts to realize that better world, then science isn’t for you anyway.

That’s what we do here. That’s our whole deal.

I’m sorry but the “should scientists be activists” train left the station for the last time when we started spending billions to build concentration camps. I feel like you guys are engaging with the science stuff as though the camps thing is like, happening on a different TV show
