This is bonkers.

Awards will now be made independent of peer review decisions?

Determinations will be made by who precisely? A political commissar (politruk)?

I tried an even harder example on Gemini Pro image generation and this is quite scary/amazing. I asked for a microscopy image of around 20 HeLa cells, GFP tagged 20% nuclear, 10% membrane, +1 nuclear staining, + overlap. Image below and prompt in the following post.

Is bird flu back?

Yes and it’s everywhere. I just can’t say no to @jeremyfaust.bsky.social when he keeps asking me back to talk about viruses.

Not sure there is enough dressing …

A walk by the rivers or a good nap seem like a nice way to unwind after all that. Sure the talk was excellent anyways!

Looks great!

The ‘respected author’ greeting told me everything I needed to know about their authenticity.

Knowing that this has *never* stopped you, I’m disappointed you phoned in the weakest possible excuse.

Did you physically intervene?

Apparently, ~70% of grant applications for most mechanisms will not be "triaged", i.e. not discussed at study section.

This is an increase from the ~50% level that has been in place for many years.

I don't know the rationale for this
