Utterly surreal that a key part of the pre Budget narrative from the government hasn’t been ‘Russian planes keep buzzing the Essex coast, US support for NATO is looking shaky, and thanks to the Tories our army fits in Old Trafford - that’s why we need to raise taxes’.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

This is really good. 🤌
We started showing our 8yo Back to the Future tonight. My Spanish wife texted her aunt about it & she said she never heard of it. Then she said do you mean Back to the Past which is its Spanish title.
Shouldn’t be surprised by the literalness as Knight Rider is called The Fantastic Car over there.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

Describing a society that can produce this level of science and also elect a guy who says your neighbours eat your dogs and cats would never work in fiction.
NASA just captured a comet from another solar system, from nearly every angle. 🛰️🧪

Comet 3I/ATLAS isn’t just any comet, it’s interstellar, formed in a different star system and now offering a rare look at alien material passing through ours.

All PMs are flawed but I think if you have no coherent vision, no ability to make decisions quickly, no humour or charisma when addressing the public, no strong roots in your party, no talent for charming MPs and no control over your own office, then you are unlikely to be able to turn it around
