Thanks for all your amazing coverage, Jeff. I hope you land in a great spot soon! You deserve to

Lowry was previously a 4-lane undivided street for this 3 blocks. This is typically an unsafe design in cities because there are lots of conflicts with left-turning vehicles & speeding. A similar safety conversion on part of Lyndale Ave N in 2022 has seen a 70% reduction in injury crashes. Huge ROI

This is a long-time in the making. Residents of Lowry Manor public housing organized to raise awareness of the safety challenges of crossing Lowry starting nearly a decade ago. It shouldn’t have taken this long, but I’m so glad it’s done!

Lane safety conversion & bike lane gap filled on Lowry Ave N!

Shout out to @mennos.bsky.social who pushed for this to get done this year, County staff who got on board, & City crews who installed. This 3-block paint job cost only $12k, but delivers big safety improvements.

Bummed I missed that mtg. My son goes to Emerson. It’s more challenging because it’s a magnet school so draws from whole city. Still a shock for me last year to learn there were 0 kids who left school on their own (not school bus or parent pickup). They had to work out a process for my son to do it

I thought it was the old 4-6-0!

Yeah, unfortunately lots of places in the market are closed on Sundays these days. It’s livelier other days (before 7pm)

ICE just blatantly violated the law and arrested sitting Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes while seeking to illegally arrest a patient in a hospital. Fuck these fascists.

This week, the City launch automated enforcement of speed limits at five high-risk intersections as part of a traffic camera safety pilot program. The pilot is a key part of the City’s award-winning Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic deaths and severe injuries on Minneapolis streets.

Excited that people will finally see in concrete how our Public Works staff has been working to expand the envelope for roadway safety improvements.

Coming at the close of this construction season, we'll have some much-needed new medians and new crosswalk locations at high ped/car volume crossings.

Dear neighbor,

I want to thank you for your advocacy regarding changes to our traffic calming process. As a result, Municipal State Aid streets are now eligible for the Neighborhood Traffic Calming program. 1/
Safety Improvements Coming Soon Near You!
Minneapolis Public Works will install traffic calming islands in your neighborhood later this year. Traffic calming islands are raised areas located mid-block or at intersections. They help to reduce vehicle speeds and improve crossing safety.

The locations for these installations include:
• 28th Ave S at 45th St E
• 28th St E at 34th Ave S and 37th Ave S
• 42nd Ave S at 32nd St E and 33rd St E
• 2nd St SE at 3rd Ave SE

Locations were selected independently from the Neighborhood Traffic Calming program

Traffic laws are now photo-enforced in the City of Mpls. Five traffic safety cameras were placed on accident-prone streets and will now issue tickets for speeding - $40 or $80 depending on the speed.

This is a step towards encouraging behavior change to slow down drivers and keep our city safe.🚦

I’m proud that my speed camera pilot program is now being implemented.

This will protect Minnesotans by reducing reckless driving and speeding.

These cameras will capture the license plates of speeding drivers and the city will mail a ticket to their home. So, drive carefully!

Can someone explain how Suarez got such a low G+ rating in a game where he scored 2 excellent goals (& otherwise seemed fine)? Or is that a type-o? @americansocceranalysis.com

Traffic safety camera pilot launches tomorrow. Signs and cameras are out now at initial locations. Glad to have this starting.

I’ve watched a couple commentators break down why it was a foul. I’ve come around that it was a foul. I didn’t realize a part of the rule that Phee didn’t have anywhere to go but hit Thomas with her knee & that’s a foul even though AT got the ball clean initially.

Horrifying— Barbara Gomes Marques went with her US citizen husband and lawyer on 9/16 to a green card appointment at USCIS office in downtown LA where she was tricked into walking down a hallway away from them, was snatched by ICE and never came back. She now faces imminent deportation in Louisiana.

Honest question: did you think it was a foul on Phee?
Certainly very unfortunate & tough injury & maybe stuff leading up to it could have been called tighter. I thought the finals last year were a reffing travesty, but I don’t have that juice this year.

@jonmarthaler.com since there was confusion on the pod about CCC qualifications, I’ll point to this bsky.app/profile/etha...
ethanfawley.bsky.social
It can go farther down than that too if teams above end up qualifying via other means (MLS Cup, Leagues Cup, Open Cup, Canadian Cup). Last year, Seattle qualified via standings after finishing 7th because 3 teams above qualified via others. But, obviously higher is better & top 4 guarantees spot
ethanfawley.bsky.social
I sure hope they open the upper deck for the finals again (assuming they make!). I think I paid ~$40 in the upper deck last year & it was certainly packed
ethanfawley.bsky.social
I mean those deals are nice, but it kind of stinks that if you are general public then cheapest tickets were $55 when I looked yesterday. Would be nice to just have lower prices for everyone & sell more tickets. In 1st round, I paid $50/each & then there were a lot of empty seats, which was bummer.

That's a wrap on Open Streets season! A huge thanks to all of our community organizations that made these events really sing. Fall may be around the corner, but we're celebrating all things summer with Open Streets!
