I actually agree there. If for no other reason than the point is dealing with your monstrosity, not approaching it another way. Its the real limit on your powers, not blood or anything else. Central to what makes it a roleplaying experience.
There is no world where he "paid his dues" because that would imply change and reform. Its like ex-mob guys who refuse to denounce "that life". Either you were a criminal and arent anymore wholesale or you just currently arent a criminal anymore.
