really the problem may not be that i'm dumb (although i'm sure it's not helping)

i think the problem is i'm busy and tired because full-time dad/part-time job, don't have as much time or energy for games as i wish i did, and a slow rate of progress just doesn't feel great under those conditions

it's a fascinating game, i've never really seen anything like it, and i'm thrilled it exists

but if i haven't made it to the antechamber by this time next week i'm going to put a fucking brick through the monitor

my understanding is that after you accomplish the stated goal and roll credits there is a whole lot more to do and the puzzles get even more convoluted and i'm pretty sure if i even manage to reach the credits i will be more all set than i perhaps have ever been

i've been playing blue prince and i love it but also it's pissing me off

i suspect i may be too dumb for this game but i *know* i'm too impatient for it

the reward for figuring out a puzzle is almost always another, more intricate puzzle that was hiding directly behind the previous one

I keep getting emails from LinkedIn that say I’m “on a roll” there but if logging in for the first time in several years because your wife asked you to check whether her profile is visible (it wasn’t because LinkedIn sucks) constitutes a “roll” then that site is in dire fucking straits

i do look at this info sometimes even though it's stupid and unhealthy because it's interesting to be able to tell which posts make people want me to disappear

(the most i've ever been blocked was after i said something mean about kingdom hearts)

(i should clarify that i was a kid at the time the hot air balloon thing happened; i think as an adult i would go see it but i have also replayed dragon quest iv literally dozens of times since then so i've mostly gotten it out of my system)

it's been part of my life since i played the first game on NES when i was 8, and i have loved it with my whole entire heart ever since

one time a hot air balloon accidentally landed in my neighborhood and i didn't go see it because i was too busy (re)playing dragon quest iv

ultimately it's just a really, really good classic jRPG series that paved the way for much of what we know the genre to be today, with iconic monster designs by the late, great akira toriyama (and some admittedly excellent music by a dead war crime enthusiast we try not to think about anymore)

also, a *very* strong remake of the third game came out late last year and it serves as a perfect entry point, especially for fans of the HD-2D style of more recent games like Octopath Traveler, while a similarly styled remake of the first two games is also due out later this month

hopes are high

unfortunately neither of these games is easily accessible, but the most recent entry (DQ11) is a fantastic game in its own right that stays true to the series' roots while also employing a number of quality-of-life improvements that help to modernize a franchise that admittedly shows its age

a close second is dragon quest iv, which featured four chapters with four different playable characters that culminate in a much larger fifth chapter where all the characters come together under the banner of the game's true protagonist, having already changed the world with their earlier actions

so the best entry in the series is dragon quest v, which follows the entire course of its protagonist's life, from a small child accompanying his father on an adventure he doesn't fully understand to an adult with a family of his own who help him to finish what his father began

nbd just an incredibly influential rpg franchise with a 40-year pedigree representing the pinnacle of the genre when at its best and a still pretty damned solid game in the classic turn-based space when at its worst that’s still putting out top-tier stuff to this day
