Agreed. But it’s not going to happen until Reform Ltd implodes or slumps back to single digits in the polls and the Conservatives once more become a pro EU party.

Agreed. I hope to see us rejoin in my lifetime but it’s a good 20 years away, and longer still if Reform Ltd seizes power.

The EU will not permit us to rejoin and so it’s a pointless exercise, and for as long as Reform Ltd continues to trade, we will not be allowed to to rejoin. It’s not our decision.

Then you’ll be aware that the EU requires cross party support for membership in all candidate countries.

You're missing out a step - we can't just inform the EU that we intend to join. They have to agree, and with Reform Ltd ahead in the polls and threatening to undo any deals with the EU, they will refuse to engage with Starmer. I want to rejoin the EU as much as anyone but it's 20 years away.

I don't think it's a question of guts - if Starmer did as you asked and went all in on rejoin and lost the election to Reform Ltd as a result, would we be any better off? The reality is that it will take 20 years before we rejoin, and that's if nothing else happens in the meantime.
