I love how tactfully SF coyotes are about avoiding a person walking dogs— one glided past heading to the same tiny corner park to pee, did its business, scuffed up the mulch and trotted away before my oblivious canine pals could see we had company

The sacred text that kicks off TG cooking, a double batch Ruth L. Gaskin’s cornbread made ahead for cornbread dressing tomorrow— the skillet is GLOWING

At the coop today the lady behind me in line kept remarking how our cashier looked like the buddha which unfortunately seemed like a weird comment on his body so I just agreed that he has a wonderful smile— however his patience and humor when I mislabeled a bulk item did seem holy

Really enjoying the muni announcements (“moscow and geneva” “italy” “peru”) in the neighborhood where i am dogsitting, plus it’s fun to see residential neighborhood so well served by transit (although I have a couple funiculars to propose to supplement stairs)

A “safer than humans” driverless car ran over a beloved bodega cat in SF today. RIP KitKat, you deserved better. We all deserve better than a technology that doesn’t fix our transportation crisis, endangers us all, all while further enriching billionaires.

Thank you Bean Year @billhookunion.beanyear.com for the candy chickpeas that taste like candy and chickpeas but most importantly at Halloween look like little shriveled brains

Had a day of eating outside a normal schedule and the roasted fava beans from @billhookunion.beanyear.com, tossed with a little flaky salt, basically saved me

Solidarity with the SFMOMA union staff this week— huge number of no-notice layoffs is really nasty

The ambient hostility going around in local/national politics makes me want to chat to strangers more and more. I’m hopping in to look at a birder’s scope in the park. Dog run small talk is turbo charged. I let a small drunk dude fall asleep against me on the bus. Smiling at every baby

Yesterday I saw a guy on the bus with a collapsible kayak, today an extremely big guy (tall, broad, loud) immediately struck up convos with everyone in the back of the bus and dapped up all the guys and high fived a french canadian tourist on her 40 years of marriage. Also he hates the mayor. A+

Saw a street game a la park chess matches today but it was a neighborhood oldhead who was supposedly monitoring a slow street to accommodate an outdoor food pantry playing Connect 4 at the curb with a ~8 year old kid and arguing very seriously and appropriately about the rules

Just passed two male construction workers sprawled at a table at the original Tartine. Between them was a giant loaf, hand torn, a half pound block of Irish butter and an open packet of some paper-thin cured meats. Most sophisticated public behavior I’ve seen in ages
