Donald Trump has announced a deal to slash the cost of obesity drugs—but the biggest winners might be just a small number of patients, @nicholasflorko.bsky.social argues.

Black people still stay home.

They still aren’t mad enough.

They still don’t get it.

It hasn’t moved them yet.

They need more time.

They excited about numbers

Not the message.

Stay home.

Even if RFK steps down, the deeper issue in public health, medicine, and wellness remains. The mentality fueling this problem is broader and more dangerous than one man, and dismantling it will take far more than his resignation.

We did our jobs too well.

To the point even people in medicine think pediatrics doesn’t have challenging pathophysiology.

We prevented disease too well.

That’s our problem
The “problem” with vaccines? They so effective at preventing deaths that they create generations of people that question whether disease was a problem in the first place because they have never experienced the horrors of a world without vaccines.

What’s happening at the CDC is very sad to watch. I know the everyday people in the organization are just so disappointed in their leadership right now.

But this won’t and will not last forever.

The reason why this matters:

We need the support of our professional orgs if we are going to be making recommendations beyond the FDA and CDC. There is always a risk of side effects so having institutional backing is appreciated.

What bothers me most is how quiet the science and health community is about what’s happening in DC.

I get it we’re busy, in our own bubble.

But if you only focus on yourself, by the time you notice DC, it’ll be at your front door.

Time to wake up.

It might be science and healthcare’s gun violence moment but not a Jan 6th moment.

Jan 6th stopped the news; everyone knew.

Race and class was central to that story.

Which is not mention in the op-ed

But a lot of people don’t even know this happened last week.
NEW 🚨 The violence is the point. Elected Dems must call for widespread resignations (RFK, Bhattacharya, Prasad) in response to the CDC shooting. Public health must demand this of them, and the public must demand that of us. With @publichealthguy1.bsky.social in STAT: www.statnews.com/2025/08/15/c...

I think a lot about the ppl who will have to explain in this era.

The filmmaker trying to shape chaos into a story.

The historian piecing together the mindset of a nation.

The spiritual leader searching for a way to lead their congregation back to redemption

History is now.

Choose wisely.
