Happy news! I got in contact with someone who had digital versions of the newsletter of Kay Woollard's smial which ran from 84 to 87, which gave me access to some more of her art.

She did a series of comic strips about a hobbit child called Wilmot who has a catch phrase "I'VE THUNK"

this is player-dependent, so ymmv. yesterday i was talking to one of my players about an npc that has been mentioned but hasn't appeared in-game yet. she immediately asked if she was hot, to which i replied, "is there anything i could say that would convince you she isn't?"

in my monday game, the goblins are human height, mottled green skin, and boar heads. they're loud, rude, and cruel. my players don't like them, but aren't keen on picking fights. they came across some dead ones, their swine heads nothing more than crude masks.

i wonder when they'll figure it out

something i'm having a lot of fun with in my gravelhack playtests is using the word "goblin" as a blanket term for malevolent creatures

npcs don't know what's causing havok out in the woods! to them, it's a goblin

i feel like it'd be an effective way to run "heroic" osr. give every PCs a full toolbox and level 2 HD; stock up a bunch of people that need saving/things that need to be stopped to drop into dungeons and random encounters—and you're off to the races

-magic-user spell slots
-thief skills

when you level up, choose one of those tables to advance.

use the saving throws and HD of your highest class

start with one advancement. if you pick magic-user, start with spells

this also works great for telegraphing normalcy. when your players create their own rabbit holes/red herrings, don't waste everyone's time because they're certain that random piece of furniture or NPC is important. just tell them!

"Just tell them" is such an underrated piece of advice for telegraphing dangers in RPGs.

"How can I hint that the hallway is trapped? How can I hint that if they defeat the dungeon lord, they become the next dungeon lord?"

Just tell them. Tell them out loud. With your words.
